Are you serious? Why do you think he is doing that? Because THAT's the "modelling career" he can aspire to.
Modelling is one of the lousiest, crappiest, lower-wage jobs around. So many people still get the idea that modelling is about Bundchen or O'Pry... they are not models, they are celebrities, stars, distinctive, unique characters, and it's far more clever to aspire to build something like that for you, that is, a success based on YOU, than trying to fit in established, standard profiles based on general, hazy expectations.
Success is about marketing, not talent, let alone about folllowing a definite path... that's why so many politicians who don't accept that or don't even know about it, get instead wrecked on their hopeful climbing to the top.

I think he is essentially taking a gamble. He's been a semi-famous male model for several years, and it certainly didn't make him rich. It's possible he hasn't even made a good living at it, despite being mentioned and featured in blogs and magazines all over the world.

Since he must know he won't be super-hot forever, it looks like he is trying to parlay his fame into a way to make money. He sells his own merchandise (mostly signed photos) on his web site, and he seems to be developing a subscription-only component to the site.

Your comment about "some of these pics floating around the universe" is interesting. Some of the most explicit photos I've seen of Ben Godfre were taken when he was 18 years old.
