forget mackay, I'm in love with RONAN. mmmmmmmhhhhhhmmmm!!!!!!! Sexy!!!!
forget mackay, I'm in love with RONAN. mmmmmmmhhhhhhmmmm!!!!!!! Sexy!!!!
Yea, but Ronon's dreads are so.. manbearpigish... and yucky. Now if we could get him a nice cleancut look going, then yea, he'd be ok. He'll never be as cute as Rodney though, hehe.
OH MAN! I can not wait. Thanks for the updates and keep them coming.
I consider myself pretty knowledgable about the new season, there's a lot of stuff in my head that i know i've read somewhere, but don't know where, and what not, so haven't posted it. So if ANYONE has questions off the top of their head, that they might want to know about the new season, ask away, i may actually know the answer. And if i don't, i know how to contact... certain people... who are intimately involved with the making of the show (yea i'm special... Actually not that much, but i can ask questions of certain people, doesn't mean i'd get answers though... Obviously some spoilers will always be secret until episodes air, and no, i don't know any SUPER SECRET spoilers or anything like that).
And so, because i can, i choose to make my 1,500th post, in the Stargate Atlantis thread.
Stargate Atlantis rocks!
Rodney McKay is so cute!
I love David Hewlett!
That is all...
thanks for this thread, it rocks,
could you describe how you decided Sheppard is in the closet? and the signs of a "textbook" case as you said?? im astonished and am just interested in knowing how you know/figured it out. thanks.
Enjoy Wandering through my galleries!
So, i guess i should say i didn't mean to say that the Sheppard character "IS" gay, in fact i'm sure the producers of the show intend the exact opposite. As for the textbook line, that's kinda hard to say, b/c there's really no textbook case as we all know. I'm just used to having to explain to straight people why i think he's gay, so that's where the "textbook" line came from.
Anyways, as to why i think Shep is in the closet, from the very first episode my gaydar was pinging all over the place with him! The frequent inexperience with sexual situations was a first good tip. His frequent references to "not knowing what to do when these things come up", or "never seeing something like this coming".
Then there's his obvious internal attraction to Rodney, which he masks with jokes and picking on him. And then there are his mannerisms, he's always been very shy, especially around women, not to mention he can be very animated. Just kinda look for it, you'll see some of those gaydar pings i'm talking about. Oh, and of course there's the "manly" overcompensation when interacting with other men.
A lot of it comes from Joe Flanigan himself (the actor) i happen to wonder if he might be in the closet as well. Just a hunch on my part, even though he's married and has kids. I have absolutely no proof of course, and would never say "he is", but it's just a suspicion. But as for the sheppard character? I think he's gay. Was he meant to be by the show's producers? No. Do they see it that way? Probably not. But i do, and so do a lot of other fans .
As for Rodney, he's at least bi... just because i want him to be. Plus, he really does look up to Shep so much, tries to hide it though. Best Buddies . They make the best lovers . He's so insecure though (Rodney), i'm just waiting for Sheppard to you know, build him up a little. It would help if he just admitted he loved him!
Thats very interesting indeed. That is a very nice picture of Sheppard.
Even though it's not officially Stargate Atlantis Season 4 news, it is Stargate news, and thus i think worthy of posting about, since some of you guy may not know it's available.

Updated the initial post to include the newly released title of the season finale, The Last Man,which will air March 7th, 2008 in the United States.
Special thanks to springboksfan for the post edit.
Iv just watched some of the clips for Atlantis S4, cant wait for the whole eps
I like Atlantis, it's what got me started watching SG-1. I didn't really watch before that. then it went and got canceled. I have seasons 1-5 of sg-1 on the computer and 5-10 on DVD. i haven't gotten caught up with season 3 of Atlantis because i cut my expanded cable back about a year ago, and lost scifi channel. so...i'll have to just be a season behind or download them. not sure which i'll do, probably just wait and buy them. right now they are just a bit high at 44 bucks a season at best buy. i'm hoping wal mart will have them soon.
I hope everyone in the U.S. went out and bought their Atlantis Season 3 box sets and David Hewlett's A Dog's Breakfast today! I know i did! *looks at DVD wall*
And now for the ... While the season 3 set has commentaries for 19 of the 20 episodes, none of the actors are in any of the commentaries this season , what a disappointment. I look forward to actor commentaries the most... I hope they don't continue this trend.
And Don't get me started on that... I hate the fact they were leaked, pisses me off really. Not only did people get to see it before the premiere (meaning less people will actually watch it on TV), but they got the crappy prescreen versions. WTF was SCIFI thinking including those in their press releases!??!! UGH!!!
And just as a note, i haven't downloaded them, nor do i intend to, i don't want to ruin the season premiere by watching those versions, nor do i want to detract even more from the viewing audience the show depends on to function. No watchy live on TV = No more show.
Now let me say, i don't have a problem with torrents. I don't think it's bad if you want to use them to check out a show and see if you like it, or if you want to have it on your computer. But i do belive people should support the shows they like, and help them continue to be produced by tuning in every week on TV, and buying the DVDs, otherwise there's no reason for studios to make the shows we love.
And i vehemently distain leaking episodes with torrents before the episode has aired on TV. I have no problem if people put them up after they've aired, but before? That's not cool with me.
Ok, so now that that rant is over...
The DVDs are pretty cool. They reused the menuy design from the season 2 dvd's, but shifted the overall color hue to green instead of blue, and of course they have new cutscenes in the menus. The discs are printed nicely, but they seemed to have tried to cut some $$$ by not printing anything for the inside of the DVD cases like they did for seasons 1 and 2. The Digital transfers are flawless that i've seen thusfar, and the sound is supurb. I'm only dissapointed that the actors aren't in any of the episode commentaries this year, i love hearing their takes on what went on when they were filming the episodes.
Here are a few screenshots of the DVD menues and such (which are animated):

In anticipation of tonight's fourth season premiere of Stargate Atlantis, Yahoo! TV has released a brand new preview video.
The video features clips from tonight's "Adrift," and original interview snippets from actors David Hewlett ("Rodney McKay") and Rachel Luttrell ("Teyla"), as well as executive producers Paul Mullie and Joseph Mallozzi.
"It's definitely been a season of change," Hewlett says, "and it's really interesting to see how those changes have affected the way we work together -- or the way we don't work together, as the case may be!"
The video looks at the addition of Amanda Tapping and Jewel Staite to the show, the new and darker direction for Teyla, the addition of a new race, and the return of Dr. Carson Beckett.
Visit Yahoo! TV to see the video, and watch out for a few spoilers for what's to come.
Season Four of Stargate Atlantis premieres tonight at 10 p.m. Eastern and Pacific (9 p.m. Central) on SCI FI Channel in the United States!
3 HOURS AND COUNTING!!!
Just watched it again, UBER COOL! Next week, Lifeline is going to break the bank! Up for a heist!? Hell yes we are! I loved the action, the CGI was great (though there could be some better modeling on the city... seems they didn't use Rainmaker's model... but i nitpick (is my line of work after all)), and the character moments, oh the character moments, so good. Great episode, next weeks will be even better! I'm interested to see where they go with RepliWeir.
OH! And Rodney FINALLY called Sheppard 'John' for the first time in 4 years! And said 'i'm sorry' too! How cute is Rodney!?
Thanks for the info! Love the pics! I always had & still have a thing for Sheppard & Beckett. Love Carson & John. Now that Carson was wrongfully killed off, I don't watch anymore. I might try to watch again.
Well you missed the best premiere ever tonight!! Why weren't you watching!?
Carson will be back this season, i hope you know.
Well Beckett's not back until the end of the season, but that's common knowledge. But RepliWeir! Can't wait to see where this goes. If you watched the crappy pre-screen version of Adrift, man you did yourself an injustice! The Music and Sound Effects were GRRRRRRREAT!
My guess is after being captured on the replicator planet, Weir works out a truce and an alliance, stays behind as an ambassador, the replicators repair Atlantis and supply them with all the ZPMs they need, and Atlantis returns to the planet they were originally on. This maybe a result of Rodney messing with the replicator code, or Weir's already altered nanites, or more likely, none of the above. I'm just happy it's back!
I dunno, actually i'm envisioning Weir sacrificing herself to buy time for the team to escape. And the replicators, not wanting to kill her, as she is part replicator, they keep her... Until the mid-season finale .
yeah i got season 3 on dvd and was dissapointed by the no actors on the commentaries
ep 1 was pretty good but i dont really like how they have done the 3 part episode thing a double episode would have been nice but cliff hanger after cliff hanger gives me the shits
That's even better. She could come back as some evil, pregnant turncoat, with tenticles or something. The new queen of the replicators leading a rebuilt armada against Earth.I dunno, actually i'm envisioning Weir sacrificing herself to buy time for the team to escape. And the replicators, not wanting to kill her, as she is part replicator, they keep her... Until the mid-season finale
Agreed. There's enough there for a movie instead of the 3 parter. Oh well. I'll just have to wait for season 4 to come out on DVD and splice my own movie together.but i dont really like how they have done the 3 part episode thing a double episode would have been nice but cliff hanger after cliff hanger gives me the shits
Sooo, the ratings for the season premiere, "Adrift" were pretty bad. It scored a 1.2, the lowest ever for a premiere. It appears that Atlantis is the most DVR'ed (and downloaded) show on the SCIFI channel, the most DVR'ed network in the U.S.. Thus it's not getting the live viewers necessary to get good ratings numbers.
With the show's renewal for a 5th season on the line, this is pretty bad news. The latter half of season 3 held some of the lowest ratings ever for Atlantis, and it looks as though that trend is continuing. SCIFI's decision on whether or not to renew Atlantis for a 5th season will be based on the latter half of season 3, and the first few episodes of season 4.
Ratings from other countries besides the U.S. have no impact on SCIFI's decision to renew or not, as U.S. viewership is what determines ratings, which in turn determine what SCIFI can charge advertisers, which is how they make their money. If a show costs more than it's anticipated revenue from advertisers, there's no reason to keep it.
What REALLY angers me is that a lot of "former fans" on a certain other stargate message board, fans that aren't happy about a certain character leaving and another coming on board this year, are openly elated at the low ratings, rubbing it in everyone's faces and heralding it as the end of Atlantis, and they're happy about it.
Just wanted to pass along a bit of good news to everyone.
David Hewlett (Dr. Rodney McKay) and fiance' Jane just welcomed into the world their first son, Sebastian Flynn Hewlett, 9 pounds 4 ounces. Mum and son are doing well.
Congratulations to David, Jane, and little Sebastion!
Old news, . I wonder why i didn't mention it here?
It happened like, over a week ago. Stupid iTunes motherf*ckers. Another episode that won't get ratings because it was leaked.
I like the new look and feel too. I just hope it's not going to be their last season. Should find out in the next 2 weeks. I'm worried.
Don't feel bad because of low ratings. A lot of people who love scifi, like me, just keep missing episodes. I got all hyped up for the season premiere of Atlantis only to miss it [I]and[I] the next episode because I kept forgetting to set the DVR for record. So I'm forced to get the episodes via bittorrent.
So advertisers LIVE by that rating number. It determines if they're willing to pay top dollar to run ads during the show's time slot. If they aren't, SCIFI has no way of recouping the money spent on the show, much less make a profit. And if they can't do that, they have no reason to keep the show, so they'll cut it. And like i said, unfortunately DVR viewership doesn't count, BitTorrent's don't count, any viewers outside of the U.S. don't count, and iTunes and Amazon downloads don't count, neither do DVD sales.
So if SCIFI doesn't order a 5th season, that's it, game over, and they've made it quite clear that that decision will be based on the ratings of season 3.5 (which were poor) and the ratings they get from the first 2-4 episodes of season 4. They'll make their decision before the end of this month.
Now, do DVRs really count? Yes and no. This is the first season ever that Neilson (the ratings counters) are factoring DVRs. They are releasing 3 different ratings per episode. Live, Live + 3 Day, and Live + 7 Day. The Live ratings, as always, are available a few days after the airing. However, the DVR ratings take over 3-4 weeks to tabulate. And to the good part, advertisers don't really care about anything but the live ratings. Why? Because you can FF thru commercials with a DVR. So the industry goes by the live numbers still.
To put it in perspective, the pilot of Atlantis made a 3.7 (5+ million viewers), the season premiere of season 4 made a 1.2 (1.7 million viewers), that's a 68% loss in 4 years. On the same note, last year's premiere made a 1.7, so that's a 30% loss in just 1 year.
So you can see why i'm worried.
Tonites episode was really good, I like Ronan heavy episodes, wink wink. I liked the Carter- Ronan scenes aswell, I think that it was important for them to have a strong opening scene between them.
So every time I record my shows to watch them, which I do for all my favorite shows, my view isn't counted? Sci-fi lovers are most likely tech-savvy, meaning they'll use tech like DVR. So they should find a way to count DVR esp with sci-fi. I don't know anyone who loves shows like star gate, eureka, painkiller jane, battlestar, etc who doesn't record them on DVR to save time by skipping commercials. And DVRing doesn't count in the ratings (well there's a debate, i'll get to that). So what happens is people DVR it, or Download it, and don't get counted as having watched it. Thus it doesn't get a good rating, i.e. 1.2.
And like i also said, while neilson is trying to start collecting DVR data, advertisers pay little attention to it because people do exactly what you said, skip through commercials. The entire ratings system is flawed now that DVRs are in so many households. It sux that networks are still putting so much stock in the live viewership ratings. And what sucks more is that the amount of DVRing of Atlantis is estimated to be about 16-25%. Which could offer a significant "future altering" boost in ratings. But they're not counted, as of yet, and whether they would even matter to advertisers is unknown at best.
So there's this crappy cycle of destruction. You're right, SciFi viewers are the most tech-savvy group out there, and much more likely to DVR shows. And the more we do so, the less viewers the show is counted as having, and the less it's ratings, and the less chance it has to get renewed. Battlestar Galactica is ending after this last season because of this (it's low ratings, and no promise from SCIFI for a definite fifth season).
