Never Again sounds like a 12 year old's take on Alanis' You Oughta Know.

"I hope the ring you gave her turns her finger green"

    Haha.

oh of course... it's shlock.. shallow pop. Name a song by Kelly Clarkson that isn't.

But it's a throwback to 80s Bad Girl rock/pop and we haven't had that in a LONG time.

None of her songs are amazing lyrical masterpieces but at least she seemed to be aware of that. This one is trying to be all bad and the the result is laughable. Alanis does it so much better.

Not sure from where the comparrison between Kelly Clarkson and Alanis comes.

Annie Lennox and Pat Benetar do it better than either one could ever hope to do in a million years.

At least Kelly Clarkson isn't belting out whiner tripe like "Because of you" or "a moment like this." Leave that shit for the Euro-Trash awards.

What's that silly Sanjaya up to now?

He did always envy the fact that Kelly could wear her hair in braids like the Farmer's Daughter (...while out in public...if she so chose to).

All that "American Idol" cranks out is DOLLARS FOR $IMON COWELL. Wake up people, these are not the Arethas, Ellas or Mels (MELs? Yes. Mel Torme) they're finding here.

If this show could really actually find an American Idol, he or she would be so obvious from the get-go that there wouldn't be a need for a show.

Instead, none of them approach anything more than "real good high school talent show" level. So the whole season is about eliminating the worst from the so-so.

Oh, and lining $imon Cowell's pockets.

FIND YOUR IDOLS ELSEWHERE PEOPLE OF EARTH! There are incredible singers out there doing it the right way - sweat, talent and time.

Do you know how many honky tonks most great singers had to sing in before anyone even knew that they were alive?

It's a moot point anyway.. Never Again is a hit and the album will be too. I think that song is briliant.
I didn't say it DID say that in the article, as I said, the article came out a while ago, and I couldn't find the exact article that mentioned it. Here is a Billboard Q&A where someone else mentions they read the same thing http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/ask_b..._id=1003574416

I'm just making the point that I read that RCA was apprehensive about the direction she was going with this album (as they were with Breakaway), so it's not that much of a stretch that they would give her some sort of ultimatum about Never Again.

And it's too early to call Never Again a bona fide hit. It shot up to #8 because of iTunes, but we've yet to see how well it will fare on radio.

That is exactly why this was believable to me. And for all we know, they could BE making her record some new songs.

Anyone else find it odd that there has YET to be a release date?

Same concept and even some similar lines, except Kelly's execution is awful. I liked Never Again until that song came to mind and then I realized how it pales in comparison.

Her voice is incredible though, so I'll check out her album regardless.

yes, lyrically, the alainis song is much stronger. Kelly's a better singer. IT's still disposable pop and it's not SUPPOSED to be amazing.

Yes, it's disposable pop. But any random track from Breakaway is better disposable pop than Never Again IMO.

I don't understand the hate for Never Again. It's not a masterpiece of course, but none of the Breakaway singles were either. It kind of reminds me of Since U Been Gone. Never Again has already gotten stuck in my head a couple times, so at least it's catchy, and I like it.

    HITS DAILY DOUBLE

RCA SUPPORTS KELLY: Despite rumor-mongering from the U.K. Daily Star and other online sources, there is no dispute between Kelly Clarkson and the RCA Music Group. These rumors began after the SBMG International meetings in Las Vegas a couple of weeks back and were based on an inaccurate report about Clive Davis' presentation of Kelly's new LP at the confab. Sources who were there insist the chatter is not true. In fact, Davis specifically stated that Kelly is “one of the top four artists at Sony BMG” and wanted to ensure that she is treated as such. There are absolutely no plans to scrap the LP. Meanwhile, Richard Palmese's promo team is working round the clock to deliver Kelly's first single, “Never Again,” to trigger the release of what all are convinced is a chart-topping album, set to hit stores July 24th. (5/4p)

    -------------------

    EW Popwatch blog:

Britain's Daily Star reported that Sony BMG chief Clive Davis found Kelly Clarkson's new album so vile, she's now forced to scrap it. I guess you could have stopped reading after the first three words of this sentence to assume this is bogus, even though the American blogs are all aflutter. But her publicist assures EW it's "not true."

    -------------------

    IDOLATOR

Track Marks: How The "Kelly Clarkson's Album To Be Revamped" Rumor Became Today's Biggest Rumor In The World

Welcome to another edition of Track Marks, in which your Idolators perform an autopsy on the latest band burning up the MP3-blogger charts. Today, however, we'll take a look at today's second-most blogged-about rumor:

    Artists: Kelly Clarkson
Project: A complete revamp of her forthcoming album, My December.
First mention: An April 30 post on the Velvet Rope claiming that label head Clive Davis savaged the first four songs on the album at a corporate conference, asking the crowd, "Remember, we're all family here and this project is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and does this sound like a Number One single to you?"

The Build-Up: A piece running with Davis' displeasure and claiming that Clarkson was completely overhauling the album ran today in the UK newspaper The Daily Star, a Page 3 Girly tabloid that we had never heard of until it was cited in...

The Dam-Break: ...a bunch of blogs that ran with the item, including In Case You Didn't Know, rickey.org, and the always-reliable TMZ. It doesn't look as if any of them tried to further the story, or even think about the fact that the album's first single, "Never Again," has already hit the Billboard 100 and TRL; we're not saying that it's completely unlikely for an on-the-verge-of-release album to be shelved, but it does seem pretty weird for the Kelly backlash to hit so hard at this particular moment. Is this the result of Kelly "crossing" Davis by wanting to strike out in a more rock direction? And why in the world would some British tabloid that doesn't even have a proper Web site be ground zero for a whispering campaign against her?

If Kelly's music is disposable pop than so is Christina's. And she hasn't exactly been burning up the charts lately...much to my dismay because I love her.

Who said Christina's wasn't--and what does Christina have to do with anything? Or her chart position?

Plus, I wasn't the one that even brought up the term disposable pop--I was responding to someone else that used it.

Kelly Clarkson sets the RECORD straight!

    MTV News

    Kelly Clarkson Makes a Stand

Kelly Clarkson's latest album has been finished since January, but will not be released until July 24th. And Kelly seems far from impressed with her record label.

Some gossip sites have been reporting that there has been some tension between the former American Idol and label mogul, Clive Davis on what the album should sound like.

MTV Radio caught up with Kelly earlier in the week and here's what she had to say:

"Everybody always wants me to go in different directions. Obviously they're a record label so they need to sell records. They want the formula writers and the formula producers that do everybody else's stuff, and while I love some of those people... and I don't mind working with that... I just don't like working with someone that gives you a song and is like, 'Oh, I wrote this for you.' But you find out that they've given it to every other artist and they turned it down, you know?"

Kelly might've been feeling pressure from her label, but she didn't back down.

"My label literally sent me a Lindsay Lohan track from her last album and wanted me to record it for my new album. And while I like Lindsay Lohan, like I'm cool with her and I think she sings the song well... it's already been on an album. I don't care what pop star it is."

Clarkson was kind of offended by the whole situation. "They were just sending me stuff that was like almost insulting. I'm like, 'You can't even find new songs?"

"You don't want me to write my album but you're sending me hand me downs?' So, I ended up writing the entire thing with the people that I write well with."

    You go girl!

'My December' will hit stores on July 24th.

Sometimes, the art of saying what you want to say in your music is more important than producing a massive radio hit. If people decide not to buy the album because of that... so be it. At least she remained genuine to herself and her fans, and nobody can fault her for that!

    Another article...

    http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/155...on_kelly.jhtml

Kelly Clarkson On Rumored Label Squabble: 'I Always Stick To My Guns'

Singer says she's butted heads with execs on every album — the public just found out this time.

One thing's for sure — Kelly Clarkson isn't afraid of a fight.

Though the singer says she's butted heads with her record label over every album she's done, the friction over her forthcoming My December is the one that's caught the public's attention. Clarkson just sees it as a badge of honor.

"I've never once compromised myself, so I don't think you should," she told MTV News at Southern California radio festival Wango Tango on Saturday. "I think that's when you start to lose fans and credibility."

Reports started surfacing that label head Clive Davis was unhappy with Clarkson's new rock-heavy direction after he spoke at Sony BMG meetings in Las Vegas in April. Posts on music-industry discussion site VelvetRope.com immediately afterward claimed that Davis said Clarkson had told him she no longer needed his help finding songs for her since she would write her own material. When Davis played her first single at the meetings, the posts claimed he asked the crowd, "Does this sound like a #1 single to you?"

Gossip sites then upgraded what would have been just a rumor about Davis' unhappiness with the project by running items that the album would be shelved (which turned out not to be true). What was true, Clarkson confirmed to MTV News, is that there was some conflict over her choice of a first single as well as the album as a whole, but it's since been resolved.

"This time, everybody made a big deal about the label and me disagreeing with the record, but that's happened every record,"
she said. "This is just the only one people know about, so there's nothing new. It's always the same thing, every song I come out with, every record. Everybody's like 'eh' at first, and after it does well, then they're behind it."

In fact, her single "Never Again" recently debuted in the top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100. And on Friday, Clarkson succeeded in getting the label to push up My December's release from July 24 to June 26. According to label rep Lou Robinson, the singer "really wanted" her fans to be familiar with the songs when her tour starts July 11 . "She wanted it, and we wanted to oblige," Robinson said. So was any of the rescheduling related to the previous squabble with the label? "No, not at all," he said.

"I always stick to my guns," Clarkson said. "I think you definitely need to keep doing what you love, because I'm the one who needs to sing it every night."

Ahem, she does. Just as the articles say.

Didn't you read the part where she said they send her a track from Lindsay Lohan's album and wanted her to re-do it, herself? She informed them that they doesn't need their song suggestions, because she'd writing her own... I love her for that. It might not be a massive radio hit, but at least she's not a sellout who does whatever the industry expects of her. She stays true to herself, and whether that sells records or not, I respect her for it.

Anyway, I love that she's such a chameleon with the different genres of music. She can sing pop, rock, country... you name it, she can do it. And she DOES it, by exploring those avenues with each album she released. She's unpredictable and interesting, and I just love her.

She was talking about that in response to them sending her a Lindsay Lohan song to record -- something that was already on a record. It was her way of saying, "If they MUST send me song suggestions, can't they at least be NEW, previously un-recorded material?"

She's more than capable of writing her own, and she prefers it that way. And that's what she does.

She means she'd consider singing songs that they send her as long as they haven't been recorded before. But she'd rather write her own.

Re: Kelly Clarkson sets the RECORD straight!

I think she needs to stand up for herself. When a singer writes their own music and they sing it the right way you can feel the difference in a performance. They feel more accomplished and good about themselves because they know they wrote that song and their fans like it. I like Never Again and if its a preview of whats to come from My December then bring it because I think it sounds awesome. And if it bombs, so what, most artist that have been around for many years: Madonna, Janet, Whitney, Mariah, Melissa Esthridge, Sheryl Crow......, (which Kelly hopfully will) all have had bomb records. And all have come from the ashes with new awesome music.
    That is so fetch!

    Brilliant.

Say all you want about Britney, but she's sold 76million albums. Something Kelly will never reach if she thinks she can crank out hits on her own. It's already happened with Alanis Morissette? Jagged Little Pill was HUGE. Then she went and tried to do it on her own, and her sales plummeted. With that, she faded into obscurity.

Whatever the issues were, I am so looking forward to Kelly's new album. Pray it rocks like the last one. : )

You know, it almost looks liek she went and pasted her name over "Evanescence".

I'm fairly certain that's not the real album cover. Not totally sure, though.

See, all this nonsense with Clive Davis and whatnot is the big reason why I DON'T want Blake to win American Idol.

Clive will just send over Timbaland to do Blake's entire album and hire Justin's stylist & choreographer and whatnot.

    Record execs suck.

Bitch please, Britney's faded into obscurity too. She's tabloid fodder, she'll never be a succesful artist again.
