Clarkson's previous album, 2004's Breakaway, sold nearly 6 million copies -- but the original American Idol winner still had higher aspirations for her latest release. "My first two albums are very scattered, with different producers and different writers," she says. "They're collections of songs, not albums by any means." Clarkson wanted her third album to be more cohesive, to tell the story of a tumultuous two years in her life -- during which she won two Grammys, went through a rough breakup, hit her mid-twenties and tried to grow up. Against her label's wishes, she opted to write most of the songs herself, with members of her touring band. The resulting album, produced by David Kahne (who worked on the Strokes' First Impressions of Earth), ranges from alt-country (she names Patty Griffin and Ryan Adams as influences) to Foo Fighters-style rock to bare-bones acoustic ballads. "Never Again" and "One Minute," the candidates for the first single, are both rockers; Clarkson calls the former, penned about the aforementioned breakup, "one of the most bitter songs I've ever written in my life." Kahne brought in an unlikely guest musician for about half the tracks: ex-Minutemen bassist Mike Watt."He played on the rock ones and also on some of the ones with a more singer-songwriter vibe," says Clarkson. I love the vocals but its got an odd tempo to it. I'm sure its one to grow on, its just weird. The lyrics are good, as usual though. Radios here are all over it (the album version)

I like this version of the song a lot better. Its a lot more clear to hear what she's saying and it compliments her sound and vocals a lot more. Its much more Kelly imo.

The original version she is drowned out by the guitars and rock sound.

Pop star KELLY CLARKSON has reportedly scrapped her new album after label bosses weren't impressed with the record. The 25-year-old singer suffered a scathing attack from Sony BMG chief Clive Davis after he heard the new tracks, reports British newspaper the Daily Star. A source at the record company tells the paper, "It was an extraordinary presentation. Clive was absolutely merciless in his criticism of Kelly. "She's one of the biggest priorities on the label and her new songs were savaged." The American Idol winner has been working on the follow up to 2005s best selling album Breakaway for 18 months, but has reportedly gone back to the studio to work on new tracks.

This information is in the English newspapers today and it has been on the news etc i have heard she is not scrapping the album but the track listing is being changed as both parties (her and the record company are not happy with the final set up.

However i thikn never again is really good and that song alone make me want to buy the album

The album has not been scrapped. She is just going back to the studio to record more tracks. This news isnt new, there had been murmurs that RCA wasnt happy with Kelly's new more edgier sound. But the cd will be pushed back a bit.

There were articles a while ago coming out saying that RCA wasn't happy with the fact that her album was going in more of a rock direction (which makes sense because they didn't want her to even do Breakaway) and gave her an ultimatum about the first single (before it was even confirmed that it was Never Again).

Kelly has even said herself that her label was concerned because the tracks sounded very Pat Benatar. "I had somebody at my label say they didn't like it because it was too Pat Benatar," Clarkson told MTV News of the new song.

it doesn't say ANYWHERE in that article that she was going to be sent back to the studio if Never Again wasn't a hit, and it doesn't say that RCA wasn't happy.. just that one person compared it to Pat Benetar (and that person could be the janitor).

It's a moot point anyway.. Never Again is a hit and the album will be too. I think that song is briliant.
