Nipple Piercings-Barbell or Ring?

I'm getting my nipple pierced in a few weeks time but I'm still undecided on whether to get a straight barbell or a closed ring.
Does anyone have any experience - good or bad - from their piercings that I should consider when making my choice?

A barbell is usually better while the piercing is healing. It's lighter and since a straight barbell is the same shape as the needle, there is less stress.

I had rings when I was first pierced, which I change now and then for barbells.
I think the cleaning is easier with a ring, as the ends of the barbell are closed to the nipple and therefore more difficult to clean.

i agree, i got my ear cartlidge pierced, and they didnt heal for over a year, because i had studs in them,they dont allow enough room for you to slide the jewelry clear of the skin, so that it can be fully cleaned...but i have heard people prefer bars for nipples, because of it healing straight, i would go with the advice of the dude thats piercing you, if he says it doesnt matter, go with the rings cause they are easier.....then get barbells for later

speaking from experience, a ring is best until the peircing has sealed because you can rotate the ring, you should do this at least twice a day as it significantly helps to ensure the peircing stays clean
coat the ring with suds from an antibacterial soap, rotate in both directions a couple of times, then coat the ring in diluted teatree oil and repeat the rotations, this will help the peircing seal faster, reduce any swelling, and ensure it stays clean

How much more sensitive do your nipples get?

Is it true that if you take out the piercings, even for a few hours that they'll close back up immediately? A friend of mine had to have an MRI done and had to take his out and his closed up in a few hours.

How bad does it hurt?

If I like using clamps/clothespins on my nipples and having them pinched and scratched will I like them pierced?

Is there a possibility of nerve damage or the piercer somehow messing up my nipples so they wouldn't be sensitive at all?

How easily do pierced nipples get infected? A friend of mine has his pierced and he won't allow his husband to suck on his nipples since they get more infected that way.

The ring might be more discrete if you don't want certain people to notice and then when it is healed you can change it whenever you want to :P

I think the others make a good argument though a ring would be easier to clean and alow for a bit more mobility. Although from some of the piercings my friends have had (like lip or tongue or something like that) they seem to give longer barbells that once the initial swelling goes down are way to big and that might be so there is extra cleaning room. For me i have never had anything pierced but i would really like to get something like my eyebrow done but i am very nervous. What does something like that feel like? Is it worth it? Do they scar badly? Oh well maybe one day i will have the nerve and get it done

I find barbells are better than rings...

Rings tend to catch more easily than barbells...

If I was to get a ring and decided to try a barbell when things have healed can you just change the ring over to a barbell or because of the way the hole will heal with a ring will I need another trip to the piercing clinic to alter the shape of the hole?

Beardedwolf I've read in a few places that you need to keep the piercing in as it will close very quickly, if you need to take it out for medical reasons such as an operation there's something you can put into the hole that isn't metal to stop it from closing, sorry can't remember the name for it.

I'm not too bothered about the pain, I've been told the piercing will be over in seconds and I'll be given a local anaesthetic which will reduce the pain.
The place I'm going to has been recommended by several people which I think also helps to put my mind at ease and I've already met the person doing the piercing when I went to make the appointment, I already feel I can trust him to do a good job, he went out of his way to answer any questions and put me at ease.

As for the closure, it all depends how long you have had the piercing. After a year or more, it takes more than a couple of hours or days to close.

And if you like clamps, and all the rest - - there should be a smilie for tit work ! - the piercing will increase your sensations and you pleasure !

No matter what you start with you can chage it later... screw all that business about the shape of the piercing and what ever... i got a hoop when i got mine done and often change between hoops and barbells

But to start i would diffently go for a hoop... makes it MUCH easier to clean. Not only can you rotate it to scurb it out but the beads of a BB so close to the fresh wound just allow for more bacteria to hang out and hieghten the risk of infection. Beside, when i first got mine done, wiht every move of my arms i could feel the weight of it jiggle!! i'm not sure if a barbell can do that--and its the best part!!

and yes gettin your nips peireced can decress OR increceass the sensitivity... every case is different... i think mine stayed the same- but i only did one--for comparison purposses i guess

just go for it and dont be afraid to upsize after time... the 12 or 14 gauage can look stupid and can tear with to much play.... i have an 8 knida big then the typical nip piercing but not obscenly so

If you DO go for barbells, get slightly overlong ones initially, because they'll be easier to clean and better able to cope with any swelling that occurs.

A good piercing studio should provide a jewelery change after six weeks for exactly this reason.

I'd definitely go for the barbell. they're really sexy, and make it REALLY fun during foreplay to play with the nipples....I love a guy with nipple piercings

I had my piercing done today. Went for a ring in the end but may change it for a barbell in the future.

Pleased to report there was very little pain just the bit when the needle went in but it only lasted seconds! Although it's only a few hours after I'm surprised at how little pain I'm feeling now, thought my nipple would be much more painful after!
