It's sad since Matt's personal life seems a lot more wholesome than most of the Hollywood hetero relationships out there.

the picture from 10 years ago was leaked- it wasn't 'openly' sent out by him....all contracts have a morals clause-standard TV deals are for 5 years and if they think your 'lifestyle'- from drugs to spouse abuse to homosexuality, hurts the show's ratings in any way- you can be fired. I temped at William Morris in NYC back in the 90's- I've seen these, they don't spell out homosexuality, but everyone knows it is included- all they have to do is show how negative press and viewer anger has hurt the show and you're gone....

In the 1990's New York and other states did not have the very kind of anti-discrimination laws on the books that they have now. Morals clauses have always been used to justify anti-gay discrimination that is why these newer anti-discrimination laws exist that include sexual orientation. I don't see how any clause, explicitly or implicitly, can run afoul of a state law and expect to hold up. After all these laws exist so employers cannot hide their bigotry behind a "morals clause". Plenty of other gay actors on T.V. shows have come out without being accused of breaching their contract. And I'll say it again, a straight actor would have just said he was straight.

What is all this talk about a contract requiring him to stay silent about his sexual orientation. I thought California had some law on the books that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation. How on earth is such a contract even legal??!! And where, other than this site, has there ever been any independent corroberation that his White Collar contract calls for him to say silent on the subject? All he has said publicly is that he has "a show and a network riding on my shoulders". He never said anything about his contract expressly forbidding him from coming out.

He said something to the extent of "having a whole show resting on my shoulders." Aka he wouldn't come out because it would be too risky, maybe the show would drop in the ratings because he has a lot of female fans. I believe more this reason than a possible contract. Like you said, a contract wouldn't even be legal. He decided it himself. He's practically staying in a glass closet. He took one of his sons to the Shrek premiere, even wearing a wedding ring. It's not like it's a huge secret. He just decides not to say anything to the general public, but he still lives his life the way he wants to. I admire that, and I think that is a lot smarter than those pathetic closet cases who choose to beard. I mean, really.. It's just stupid.

He's either going to do one of to things: 1. Get a beard and be publicly linked to a woman or 2. go the rout of Jodi Foster and Anderson Cooper and just stay in the see-through closet. So far, it looks like he's going with option 2. His sexuality is an open secret. I can't help but recall Ricky Martin's response when Baba WaWa asked him flat out if he was gay. He was visably uneasy and said something to the effect of " I don't talk about my private life" and "I just don't want to." This guy gives the very same type of response. I can understand it, but I think it is very sad. If you really don't want anyone to know your gay, that's fine. Just don't pursue a public carreer. It is totally unrealistic to think that in today's world, it will stay a secret for the course of an entire lifetime. Especially when you have at least one foot out of the closet already and one of your former boyfriends has confirmed a prior relationship. Personally I wouldn't necessarily want the whole world to know that I'm gay. I like being able to pick and choose who I come out to and when. But then, I did not seek a public life, so that is a luxury I can afford. One of the benefits of being a private citizen, I suppose.

Aagold76 if you think outing anyone will advance your cause you are sadly mistaken. Virtually every survey available indicates that a substantial majority of gays, for whatever reasons, have chosen not to share their sexuality. Trying to force or ridicule them into changing is exactly the wrong way to go. The change must, and is coming with younger people. Most will come out only when they fell that society's attitude has changed.

So maybe he wants to be the first "A-list" actor to come out of the closet during his peak? We've never had that before.

most people who have been outed- after the initial fear, feel a tremendous weight lifted off their backs and generally become much better people and better adjusted. I see outing like an intervention- being closeted destroys you, shreads your self worth and pysche....ultimately you are doing them a favor. Look at Neil and Lance- both outed, then came out...seem a whole lot happier today. I'm not advocating outing teenagers, but in this day and age- there's no excuse for anyone over 21.

I suppose anything is possible, but there is no concrete reason to believe he is anything else. My point was simply that even actors who are straight, but private, at a minimum let the public know that they do have children. They may not parade them in front of the cameras or constantly talk about them, but they at least acknowledge them. It is one thing for a single gay man with no kids to be closeted, but how on earth does one hide an entire family? I find the whole argument that somebody won't mention their sexual orientation or even the fact that they have children because they are a "private" person, to be a completely BOGUS argument. I just don't buy that. Some of the most private celebrities in the world, at a bare minimum, will at least let it be known that they have kids and what their relationship status is. They will say they have a girlfriend or they have a wife and they will at least make a passing reference to their kids. Matt Bomer has only said that he is in a relationship and that he is very fulfilled and happy in his personal life. He has NEVER, EVER said ANYTHING about having children. And while we've all seen the famous pic of him kissing his ex-boyfriend, I have NEVER seen any picture of him with any children anywhere. Where did the story about him being a dad come from? Even if you didn't want to say you were gay, why wouldn't you at least acknowledge being a dad? I only used Matt Damon as an example. Personally, I have gone back and forth on this issue of is Matt Bomer really gay and I don't know, but it sure seems that way. I keep coming back to a straight actor would have just said he was straight. If he was smart and politically savvy, he would be diplomatic about it, but come, on NO straight actor, no matter how liberal, is going to take a bullet he doesn't have to take.

He probably can't call the shots yet on what he says while he is on the show. Why is that so hard for everyone to believe? They really don't ask those questions 2 much. I never see a lot of personal questions. Mostly how do you like working with so and so or they have the actor tell a funny story or what was their first job. These cable people get like 2 minute interviews. I watched "Cold case" and" Numbers" and "without a trace" and I don't know anything about any of them. And I watched that shit for years.

I agree!! He's not a superstar yet. Give him time and see if he can climb up the stairs. Then blame him for not coming out. I mean, if he does movies in a few years and becomes a hit actor, then he can't hide his sexuality anymore. The tabloids are crazy about superstars's girlfriends/wife etc.

I hate to admit it, but from time to time I find myself really questioning if he really is gay and I go back and forth on this and I just don't know what to think. I suppose it is possible that the pics of him kissing a guy were just a joke, but then, why wouldn't he say so. When he was asked about rumors in an interview with Details magazine he said the rumors didn't bother him, but he didn't refute them when he had the perfect chance to. In a more recent interview he referred to the "mythology" about him on the blogosphere. That sounds like a denial.
How long do you suppose it will be before he gets a beard and claims the kissing a dude pics were just a joke? On the other hand, all of the stories I have read claim that he and his "husband" have children and are raising them together. That last claim, I have to say sounds rather dubious.
If a gay man is in a committed relationship with his lover and they are raising kids together, then I don't see HOW he could possibly be in the closet. Where did these kids come from? Are they Matt's from a previous relationship with a woman? Are they from a surrogate? Adopted? Are they Simon's from a previous relationship with a woman? What is the back story there?

The "wedding ring" on his finger could be from a commitment ceremony or he could actually be legally married to a woman. If he is legally married, that is a matter of public record and some enterprising journalist could find out if he is legally married and, if so, to whom. A man or a woman? However, magazine articles have only said that he is in a "committed relationship" and the actor himself would only say" I'm in a committed relationship and I'm very happy and fullfilled in my personal life." It seems rather conspicuous that he never says girlfriend or boyfriend and no one even asks about his "significant other".

Matt is 100% gay. I have been following his career since TRAVELERS back in 2007 and I was half convinced when those kissing pictures were leaked onto the internet. Then his publicist took it down from the forum. If those pictures weren't real, they wouldn't have taken it down. But fastforward a few years later, those pictures resurfaces because Matt got popular with WHITE COLLAR.

Also, he had a friendster page that said "Interested in Men" and had pictures of him and his boyfriend on there until he deleted it sometime last year. I should have taken a screenshot of it. His friends were mostly gay men too.

I've often thought the very same thing. There is definately a "gentleman's agreement" about not asking him certain things. It seems like the big elephant in the room. Not only is he never asked flat out if he is gay, he is never asked anything that even comes close to it. He is never asked if he has a girlfriend or what qualities he looks for in a woman.
