hi. havent seen any pics of aboriginal australian guys around anywhere on the net. anyone have any to share?
In part due to the fact that they consider themselves to be aussie's for the most part.
When you are looking at aussie's on the net, it is quit an ethnic mix you are looking at.
Am I right?
Well, actually, I'd say no.
I'd say that Australian Aboriginals, for the most part, see themselves as completely different to "white" Australians.
I think the most understanable parallel to draw for most of the people who post here would likely be to draw a comparison with the differences between the "white" and the indigenous populations of N.America, S.America, New Zealand, etc.
There are probably a lot of feelings of "loss", cultural displacement etc - as is the case (somewhat understandably) in many other places where the "colonisers" have overtaken the original inhabitants.
That aside, Aussies (of the current generation) ARE a very diverse ethnic mix. There are people here from all sorts of backgrounds. Nevertheless, there is likely still some degree of "ill feeling" for what was regarded as a "white Australia" policy. Back in the 50's, 60's and 70's immigrants were pretty much exclusively European. From my perspective, that began to change more in the 80's - and the 90's on saw a far more varied selection of races/nationalities settling here (tho' our current administration has always had tough refugee laws).
Check out "Ten Canoes". The star Jamie Gulpilil is very cute.
ewww aboriginals are festy... eww eww eww ewww everytime i get off the train on the way to work (in melbourne) i see them drunk and drugged up harrasing people for coines... how annoying
Okay. We're kinda getting off topic here. Maybe i wasn't specific enough. I really meant hot, clean, non-homeless aboriginal australian guys.
ps. i dont have a thing for them im just curious. any sexy pics of maori, samoan, pacific islander guys would be great to see too![]()
Ramindra, I said what I saw. Dont need to get all emotional about it. FYI, I topped my class in psychology at uni, so dont even start me on the whole psychotic business.
Gosh, stereotyping is so much bull shit! I know that psych students are as likely to be racist as any other group of people, but it's always saddening to be reminded.
And how inconvenient for non-aboriginal students to spend some cash enrolling in aboriginal studies units to learn about aboriginal people and culture and meet aboriginal people. Perhaps they would be able to soften their hearts a little and open their minds to understand not only how it is that aboriginal people sometimes find themselves in socially awkward positions (just like other folk, esp. the disenfranchised and ostrasacized), but also to understand how it is that we non-aboriginal folk are prone to exageratory interpretation of social operations involving aboriginal people.
Thanks Sam for putting in some good words before I saw this again.
There are some words here that, if they aren't actually borderline racist, are very definitely adverse racial sterotyping - and people have received warnings for comments not unlike this on JUB in the past.
Yes - there are people within the aboriginal community who would fit the unpleasant descriptions given above - there are also many from the non indigenous poulation who would equally do so. My thanks to the other posters in this thread who also made that point.
I do not plan to edit this thread to remove the "off topic" comments - but please note that any further "vilification" type posts will be removed - and warnings will be considered. I would remind everyone of Point 8 in the JUB Code of Conduct:
Please do not use language that sounds like, stands for, hints at, abbreviates, or insinuates hate speech (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, sexual, or religious slurs) or illegal activities.
Can we please now return to seeing if anyone can respond to the actual request made by hot-t88?
It is strange what white Australians think about Koori people..they just don,t know any of them..I live in Redfern which is the Aboriginal (Koori) area of Sydney & certainly know the good & the bad..& I can tell you the good shouts out loud & strong. There are many problems with drink & drugs & that is also a problem with the whites...it is not an easy life in downtown Sydney! cheers...![]()
obviously you have seem some
BUT
trained in the social sciences, you should know that your one person's experiences and observations cannot be representative of the tens of thousands of aboriginals
and even if a significant number of these aussies aborigins behave in such a manner, this is a social problem which all of us should be sympathetic about and not discriminating against
think about it?
who are the ones who came over with their european rabbits and cats
disrupt the lives of the aboriginis and aussie's unique ecology?
could we chat about reconcilliation, racial prejudice, disease, hate, social welfare, etc etc, yadda yadda elsewhere. ... pretty plz?
just to refresh your memories of the original post. anyone seen (or have to share) any pics of aboriginal guys?
