Im quite a fan of Donna Summer. On The Radio is such an awesome song
So odd that you would post just now as I am listening to Endless Summer as we speak and On the Radio is a big fave. Not sure why she's totally relegated to listening obscurity cuz after all the disco jokes are done she can really sing in a way a shitload of contemporary females can't. Gotta go, State of Independence is a-comin and it rocks ! Cheers mate !
She Works Hard For The Money is my fav...
Awesome woman. One of the divas I adore/worship/wanna have sex with/etc.
mikey
I just loaded a lot of her songs into my i pod yesterday.
I love her version of "Could It Be Magic".
She was awesome in the 70s and 80s. She puts on an awesome live show. She has such a strong, dynamic voice.
i think donna summer is one the most underrated voices on the music scene. did anyone see the american idol episode when they had to sing a donna summer song? none of them could compare. then she sang and blew everyone off the stage without breaking a sweat or looking out of breath. she is amazing!!
Donna Summer absolutely rock! Her music is just so right for gays
She got me through the seventies.
Her cover of "Protection" was excellent.
If you haven't heard it yet, try to have a listen to "macarthur park suite" - it's a 20 minute remix that incorporates three songs and is exhibit A on why disco was one of the greatest inventions in the history of music ever.
Plus I have to say I'm a big fan of "This Time I know It's for Real", her single with Stock Aitken and Waterman.
And...nothing compares to "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)" with Barbra.

I like her She Works Hard For The Money, Hot Stuff, Enough Is Enough (No More Tears) and This Time I Know It's For Real.
The Queen of Disco - and I have always thought that this was her best album cover - "Once Upon A Time"
I love most of her songs - ones that stand out for me though are:
I Feel Love
Down, Deep Inside
State of Independence
Bad Girls
MacArthur Park
Hot Stuff
Spooky coincidence - I just bought "The Journey" (her greatest hits) and it too is now happily sat on my ipod.
"State Of Independence" is one of my favourites.
This Time I Know It's for Real is so romantic!!!!
I've got my finger on the trigger - Love is in Control!
I love me some Ms. Summer!
One of my fave albums of her's was from the early 90's, Mistaken Identity.
http://www.amazon.com/Mistaken-Ident...e=UTF8&s=music
Shame it really didn't go anywhere. I loved every track on it!
Donna was the queen of disco, she had a huge following in the gay scene, two double albums "once upon a time" and "Bad Girls"
but in the 1980s with the advent of aids, Donna (Supposedly) announced that Aids was"Gods Punishment" for gays"???? she apologised for the comments but it was not enough, record producers probably thought of her as "CD poison" and her career went down the Toilet!!! - she is truly amazing if you ;love Donna Check out Grace Jones from the same era "portfolio" and "fame" cd's ENJOY!
I find it astonishing that all of you guys are favoring Summer's older material as opposed to the hits she's generated as of late.
Aside from having the No. 17 best-selling dance single of last year in "I Got Your Love," Donna also had the No. 1 Club track of 1995 with "Melody Of Love (I Wanna Be Loved)."
Which just goes to show that if the same radio stations that embraced her hits in the 1970's and early- 1980's can ignore her 30 years later, then she can go out there and carve matching success in the club market.

Sunset People & I Feel Love are two of her best and 2 of my all time favorites.
So true Kevin! And not to mention "I Will Go With You (Con te Partiro <Time To Say Goodbye>), which was a huge hit in 1999. I don't know where it ended up charting, but I know of several radio stations in the Dallas market that played the hell out of it, and the ballad version.
I forgot about "Sunset People" thats really one of the the first techno Tracks, curtesy of producer Giorgio Moroder, his own album "E=MC2" was truly awsome using Vibraphone on "baby Blue" track
Love,
love,
love all of the above and have no favorites. I think I have every track she ever recorded and all of the remixes stored on my hard drive. Don't forget "Heaven Knows".
~What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.~
I would have to say Four Seasons Of Love...
Summer fever is HOT!!!
don't know any of her actual Albums but i love her songs "This Time I Know It's For Real" and "Unconditional Love"
Live and More, the Macarthur Park Suite is a classic.
Oh, and Bad Girls too.
Only singer ever to have three consecutive double albums go platinum.
i also love her song from teh same album as this time i know its for real... I DONT WANNA GET HURT
Oh, come on - Bad Girls, no question. There aren't a lot of great disco albums, really. Some are fine for dancing but not for just listening. Bad Girls is good for both - and it's a double, for crying out loud.
Lex
Don't know what my favortie album would be, but what an amazing voice!
BAD GIRLS! Hot Stuff is my fav song
Boy, you are digging them up, emo...
I dunno, I guess I'd have to go with 'The Wanderer' if I had to choose.
Donna was very much a 'studio singer', and not all that great live...
Her producer, who's name I'm blanking on at the moment...oh, wait, it was
Giogio Moroder, or something like that, had as much to do with her success as she did...
It's tempting to go with the album with "Love to Love You, Baby" ...
Before disco became a joke, I think this was fairly good stuff...
"Cryin' won't help ya
Prayin' won't do you no good..."
I love her 'Greatest Hits'. 'MacArthur's Park', 'On The Radio', 'I Feel Love' and 'Love To Love You Baby' are my favs!
Although I play her "Greatest Hits" a lot, it's disappointing. Why have TWO versions of "On The Radio" and a endles version of "Enough Is Enough", while trimming classics like "Hot Stuff" and totally leaving out her classic version of "Could It Be Magic"? Also, I gotta agree with Joshua that "The Wanderer" was one of my favorites....very brave of her to go non-disco.
I don't know which 'Greatest Hits' you have but the one I have had all of her hits. 'Could It Be Magic', 'Hot Stuff', 'Love To Love You Baby', 'On The Radio' (only one version) etc.
1989: Another Place and Time
has: This Time I Know It's For Real, and I Don't Wanna Get Hurt
I have two, Endless Summer, and She Works Hard For The Money. Also the Endless Summer VHS videos. Love them all.
I like The Woman In Me...a minor single, but excellent. Not to confused with the Shania Twain song with the same title.
On the radio....whoa-oh oh ooooooo
was in San Fran last year when i walked into Tower records near the Castro and they were playing DS...when low and behold came across the universal release of Bad Girls complete repackaging as per the LP....what a win that was.
disc 2 has 12" remixes with a demo of Bad Girls...great for anyones collection.
I'd have to say Bad Girls and Live and More.
Bad Girls, probably.
but a close second was "Donna Summer" with "Finger on the Trigger" and "Protection."
Gentlemen.... Thank you.
^ That was the Quincy Jones one, right? Blue blouse on the cover? I like that one, although it sounded a bit too Q for me. (Same way Another Time and Place sounds far too Stock/Aikman/Waterman.) Still, good stuff on there. She even managed to sneak in a bit of soul to "State of Independence", which is amazing.
Lex
i don't have one/have never heard one.
just 'cause i'm shallow doesn't mean that i'm heartless
just 'cause i'm heartless doesn't mean that i'm mean
I really like the VH1 live and more cd,mostly for the song:My life.I also like the version of Dim all the lights that she does on it.The dvd is great too.![]()
Amazing things ahead for the Mets ....hosts of the MLB All Star Game in 2013
Donna summer is amazing and have almost every album on vinyl now.. i cant decide which album is my favorite.. how i wonder how someone that is truly racist can look up to someone of a different skin color yet love them.. own concerts, autographs.. and posters.
this is my collection... which is ur fave?
i don't have any of her albums but i've got a bunch of her singles.![]()
45s? i got those and 12" singles as well.. i loved her newest hit LOVE IS THE HEALER in 2001.. im excited for her upcoming album..
