    firefox server not found message

Hi everyone hope you all had a nice christmas. Each time I open firefox to load the server it says server not found. I have gone into connections and everything else I could think of but can't find the problem. At the moment I am using internet explorer7 and that seems to work fine but it sucks. I uninstalled firefox then reinstalled and the same thing occurs, any ideas of what the problem is? Thanks in advance.

Hey, I think I'm having a similar problem with foxfire...

I at first had issues with IE, causing me to switch to Foxfire. I was fine for a long time, then one day I couldn't find the server either. I was able to type where I wanted to go into the address bar, and mozilla Foxfire would take me to the address--no problem. I could not open up to my foxfire start page; so, I changed my start page to yahoo.com, and everything seems to work ok, but still have yet to get a good explanation of what happened to my original foxfire start page. I posted a blog/comment on the mozilla community blog, but the few explanations didn't seem to match my problem.

    Good luck...

Can you not find any website, or is it only justusboys.com that you can't reach?

Hi lefty8 and Seth thanks for answering. Firefox is not loading any site at all and when I use IE it is not bringing up the correct homepage. I use earthlink and it shows an error saying earth.net so I am forced to type in the homepage I want each time. I have checked my internet properties settings and the correct homepage is entered but it is not going to that. I use adaware, spybot and trend micro pro and none of them are finding anything as far as a virus etc. is concerned. I'd really like to smash, grind, chop and pulverize this piece of crap and throw it out the window as it has a tendency to drive ME NUTS. To everyone out there don't buy a compaq it is a piece of S_ _T

Do you have any Firewall activated that blocks Firefox?

I agree Corny - sounds like the first stages of spyware infection.

There's a thread here on various Spyware tools available - try them asap and tell us the results.

    Suggested:

    AVG Anti-Spyware Free Download Page

    Lavasoft Ad-Aware
    http://www.lavasoft.com/

    Spyware Blaster

    Spybot Search and Destroy

    Windows Defender:
    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx

There were more suggested so I'd read the thread.

p.s. HijackThis is pretty good to get a start on any app that has hijacked your home/start page.

Also check you dns server is set to automatic. I had a similar problem and it was the dns server my computer was set to use had been hijacked so that it was translating popular addresses incorrecly and sending them to an ad site. This of course affected both IE & Firefox. Changing it to automatic fixed it. network connections / properties / advanced / tcpip / properties check dns server automatic.

Re: firefox server not found message

Good one trawler69 - We often forget that our TCP/IP connections and settings can get tampered with or even corrupted.

There are some built-in tools in Windows that you can use to purge the cache and reset your TCP/IP stack.

    Start-Run-cmd

    netsh int ip delete arpcache

    Should return:
    Ok
    **************
    ipconfig /flushdns

    Should return:
    Windows IP Configuration
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

    ***********************************
    ipconfig /registerdns

    Should return:
    Windows IP Configuration
Registration of the DNS resource records for all adapters of this computer has been initiated. Any errors will be reported in the Event Viewer in 15 minutes.

    ************************************************** ****
    ipconfig /displaydns

    Should return:
Windows IP Configuration (followed by a table of stuff)
    ******************************************
Be careful with this nexrt one as it's a bit of a WMD and should only be used as a last resort but shouldn't do any harm under normal circumstances:

    netsh int ip reset
    **************
    Hope that helps.
    Noelie.

Hi guys thanks for all the replies. My computer was down so couldn't reply earlier than this. So a big thanks to all. I tried many of the programs and none of them helped so I reformatted.
