Air Force Memorial to be Dedicated Tomorrow.

Regardless of everyone's thoughts on current military actions, I hope that all will consider the contributions of our airmen in service since the Great War. Tomorrow is the dedication of the new Air Force Memorial in Arlington.

    Why Arlington, Virginia?

Kitty Hawk, NC = First flight

Dayton, OH = Wright Bros. + U.S. Air Force Museum

Colorado Springs, CO = U.S. Air Force Academy

Arlington, VA = Lots of dead people + Robert E. Lee??????

I would guess that "Memorial" would be the key word. Arlington National Cemetery is close by.

I saw Ross Perot's son on Larry King and he talked about this, if only briefly. The lion's share of the show was Larry King trying to get Clay Aiken to come out of the closet, and this was the last segment of the show.

At any rate, it is fitting that the Air Force should have a memorial, just like the other branches of service.

Here it is still under construction:

I think it's better appreciated from a distance, up close you lose the feeling of jets shooting into the sky with streams behind them.

    Height releated to other landmarks:

I don't think I'd want to be standing under that during a lightning storm ....

I know everyone thinks this an Air Force monument, but the rumor is that it is really a monument to the Trilateral Commission. I hope Holland knows about this.

They should've erected a memorial (that size) to the victims of the U.S. atomic bombs dropped on Japanese civilian cities in WWII.

The pictures posted of this "memorial" remind me of something you'd see in North Korea or the former Soviet Union.

    It's very sword-like and menacing.

This one-sided memorial reminds me of a few excellent quotes.

War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other's children.
    Jimmy Carter (1924 - )

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
    Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955)

You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war.

On this, I agree...war is evil. Anyone who has fought one knows it all too well. It is indeed tragic when the human race has to resort to such barbaric measures. This memorial is only remembering those who have lost their lives in the defense of the ideals of a nation. I personally don't see it as a political statement. May they all rest in peace.

Jimmy Carter (1924 - ) TRUE -- Except that our Createor has often realized the need to cleanse the Earth to protect his Creations -- He said so...

Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955) Conjecture -- Unless Professor Einstein is a time traveler--which without a doubt along with Merlin he very well may be...

You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war.
Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955), (attributed) False -- with deep respect for Professor Einstein
