Snow in Western NY

Western NY had 2 feet of snow! 350,000 are currently without power. I hope that any JUBBERS out there are okay.

Don't miss the October snow from when I lived in Syracuse & Buffalo. Heck, I don't miss the March, April or, yes, even May snow.

I do miss the change of seasons... but I don't miss the "six inches of partly cloudly".

We had a nice weekend in Niagara planned. Hotel overlooking the falls, the perfect end to a perfect vacation (first part of week we spent in Paris). Well, bam. Our flight cancelled last night, everything today was full or cancelled and it sounded like it would have been a nasty weekend even if we made it to Buffalo. So, we are now back at home in sunny (and warm!) Florida. For any Jubbers in Buffalo, good luck. Of course, you have to get your power back on before you'll be able to see the good wishes.

Lake effect is a beautiful thing, except when it dumps two feet of snow on Buffalo, and leaves Rochester, 70 miles to the east, with only a dusting on the ground, which has already melted.

As close as 18 miles west of Rochester (Orleans and Genesee Counties), schools, businesses and highways were closed. Over 200,000 homes in Orleans, Genesee, Niagara, and Erie counties are still without power. National Grid (the utility that succeeded Niagara Mohawk) says that full power won't be restored until next week.

The New York State Thruway (Interstate 90) was closed from Exit 46 (Rochester, Interstate 390) west to exit 59 (Dunkirk), not far from the Pennsylvania border.

However, it was business as usual in Rochester today.

My deepest sympathies to all the Western NY Jubbers who are displaced from their homes because of no power (and it's a cold night out there, so you HAVE to be where it is heated).

There will be plenty of lake effects to experience in Rochester this winter. I lived there for 28 years and as a little tyke I remember trick or treating in snow boots. I tip my knit cap (hardly ever used now) to all the hardy souls who live in western NY and seem to secretly enjoy weekly snowfalls from November to May. Living in Rochester, NY isn't my cup of tea or my can of Genny Creme (cheap local suds) but there are the rare times when I miss it.

Ron - LOL whenever someone suggests where to eat I say Chili's (with the two long I's) and they look at me like WTF??? Its my own inside joke. No, didn't grow up or live in ROC just had relatives around there and would visit on occasion. Good people, quite conservative financially (a good thing) and I've observed tied more economically and culturally to the Great Lakes area rather than downstate. And still pissed at Scott Norwood!!!

Hello all! I live in one of Buffalos' suburbs and we just got our power back on about 10 minutes ago. It went out around 10:30 Thursday night and I've been freezing my ass off ever since! But I had hope when I saw a NYSEG (New York State Electric & Gas) truck driving down the street working on every utility pole this morning. They're saying that most of the city of Buffalo will not have power until the end of the week at the earliest, so I hope everyone will be ok! What a great weekend this was! Anyways...all I can say is.....typical WNY autumn!!
