Kudos to Condi (On One Issue, At Least)

I may disagree with her on most things, but I have to give Condi a hat tip for this ...

    From AmericaBlog ...

    ...

Condi recognizes gay man's "mother in law" in front of Laura Bush at official ceremony </B>
by John in DC - 10/12/2006 06:03:00 PM

It doesn't get more real than that. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a member of George Bush's cabinet, while standing alongside First Lady Laura Bush, recognized a gay man, his partner, and his "mother in law" - i.e., his gay partner's mom.

For all the criticism we give Condi, and it's well deserved, she gets kudos for this one. I interviewed her years ago, during the 1999 campaign for the presidency, and the lady doesn't let out a word she doesn't mean. She said "mother in law" because she meant "mother in law." And she meant to say it in front of Mrs. Bush and the cameras. She knew exactly what she was doing. The question is why Ms. Rice felt the need to make a pro-gay gesture at this point in time. With the Foley scandal in full bloom, you'd think the Bushies would want to stay away from gays like the plague.

Yes, I get it - Foley is not a "gay" scandal, BUT, the gay issue is obviously hot right now, and with the religious right seething like neo-Nazis at a synagogue, it just strikes me as odd, though welcome, that Rice decided now was the time to make a bold gesture in favor of gay marriage - and that's essentially what she did.

Wow. While this is nice, I never knew we were now giving out awards just for just being a decent person.

Since there are so few of them in this administration, her gesture was at least noteworthy. LOL, possibly one of them was a hairdresser .... Lord knows she could use some good advice in that area.

As to her visage: grim. Bleak. Barren. Extreme voodoo.

If the white house gig falls through, she can always get a job as a shoe clerk ..... the same career path her boss should think about pursuing.

I've got to agree with epic, big deal. Ken Mehlman will even give you a blow job (and maybe a couple of other guys at the same time) but, he is still a Republican and will cut your balls off for a few votes.

Recognition given in that fashion may be a first in public political circles.
What interests me is this: will it catch on?

To you Demibrats: it IS worthy of applause at least -- just read your own propaganda about this administration... if you've been right all along, they must be setting the stake in the ground and piling up the wood right now!

"Thirty-one* states allow all qualified citizens to carry concealed weapons. In those states, homosexuals should embark on organized efforts to become comfortable with guns, learn to use them safely and carry them. They should set up Pink Pistols task forces, sponsor shooting courses and help homosexuals get licensed to carry. And they should do it in a way that gets as much publicity as possible. "

Like everything else in this administration, this was a contrived, political display. Everything they do is for a photo-op.

I wish I could believe that this was a sincere gesture on the admins part and her words were honest. I can not accept anything they say as truth. This is really sad.

You see, you spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time.

How desperate are we that we get all verklempt when one of these professional bigots acknowledges the truth?

Republicans are our enemy and they should be Condi's enemy also. If it had not been for Democrats and courageous African Americans, Condi would be working in George Bush's kitchen.

I actually believe the Bush Administration in itself, is pro-gay. They're only playing the conservative Christians for votes and pretending to be "hetero family values."

That certainly would explain why Ken Mehlman's suit pants are baggy at the knees ....... not to mention his numerous late night visits to the White House.

    LOL

Perhaps my language was too strong in using "pro-gay"

I think they are more "open-minded" than their constituents. I mean Daddy Cheney, Bush inviting Elton John and his boyfriend to sleep over at the White House, and Laura Bush not caring if someone is gay or not who visits the White House, etc. I think the pushing for the Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment is all just for show, and that the Bushes could care less about homosexuality while the Evangelical Christians do.

They're still hypocrites, but I don't believe they are as ambivalent towards homosexuality as they publically claim to be.

I'm not entirely certain the Bush administration is pro- much of anything, except imposing morals on others, and pursuing ignorant military plans.
