    N.H.L. Off-Season Moves

O.K. so your team didn't win or maybe they did. So now we're a couple of months away from training camp and pre-season match-ups. Whats good or bad with your fav. team. What do you think is promising or disappointing with what your team has done thus far?

I for one am a HUGE Detroit Red Wings fan and I'm horrified at what has transpired thus far. I HATE Dominic Hasek, I wish we would have traded for either Biron or Nabokov. I'm sad to see Shanny go since he was our leading goal scorer last year and the only one on the team that seem's to know how to throw a body check or fight for that matter! Yzerman retiring was waaaay over due but his leadership will be hugly missed and not quite sure who will step up to take that role. (Lidstrom probably) I see us finishing around 4th or 5th place in the west and being knocked out in 2nd or 3 round of playoffs. Sorry but its not a question of "if" Hasek will get hurt but rather "when". Osgood is NOT good enough to take us deep into the playoffs. I don't understand why we made Belfour come in for a doctors exam and physical and then sign a goalie that hasn't played a full seaon in 4 yrs??? Its the biggest mistake they've made in a number of seasons.

    Any thoughts???

    Re: N.H.L. Off-Season Moves

Geez, Nate. I missed this one somehow. Where are all the hockey fans?! and_rew, get your butt in here!

Okay, for the Avs. I'm severely disappointed in the Tanguay trade. I'll miss Blake and Hinote. And the longer the summer goes along, the more anxious I'm getting about Svatos. Apparently negotiations aren't going well, if they're going at all at this point. If we lose him, we're in a world of hurt, especially with Tangs gone. Sign him already! Damn!

I really wanted us to get Pronger, but no biggie. I'm just disappointed that he went to Anaheim--I can't stand them! On the flip side, I'm thrilled to see Lupul out of Anaheim and in Edmonton.

The whole Theo & Paris debacle caused me to lose any respect or affection I had for him. He's got a lot of work to do before I care again. If he were on any other team, I'd probably take great delight in seeing him have a bad season. Unfortunately....

I'm thrilled we still have Super Joe this season and that Budaj stayed. I think Liles is being paid way too much. Leopold having surgery and being out for the beginning of the season doesn't make me too happy.

I guess all in all, it's just a mixed bag. We'll have to see what happens when season starts--which cannot be too soon!!

    What up Spring..

I guess you and I are the only two on here that still cares about our teams in August. I'm super siked to see if we're screwed or gonna be alright this year. I have to say that I hope you guys get Svatos signed up. But if you don't I'll only be happy if he comes here...lol (i know..i know "hands off!!!)

    Well talk to you soon...

Pronger is probably one of the most hated men in Edmonton history now, that's a shame. Thrilled with Lupul though. Lupul is brutally hot too! Smid should be in our top pairing in a few years, and while I like that Roloson re-signed, I keep dreading this is going to be like Irbe in '03.

Peca can FO&D, he never wanted to play here anyways. I hear alot of fans saying (mostly jealous Canucks/Flames fans of course) that his departure will cost us out of a playoff spot, but those fans are idiots because he was so sub-par in the regular season that he was demoted to a 4th-liner. He never showed up until game 6 vs. San Jose. But I will give him credit for how he helped in the playoffs.

Samsonov won't be missed, seriously. There's no room for him in our top six. He has the nicest bubble butt I've ever seen though, I have a picture of it, I'll scan it later.

As of now, our forwards look like:

    Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky
    Torres-Stoll-Lupul
    Moreau-Reasoner-Pisani
    Winchester?-Schremp/Pouliot?-Stortini?

Which I think is the best in the NW and one of the most balanced, potent offences in the league. At least top 5.

Lowe will have until the deadline to stack our D, we have alot of cap space. Right now it's looking a little thin, but hey, the last two Cup winners didn't have remarkable D either.

Another thing the Oilers need to do is VASTLY improve special teams. If they do that, they are easily a contender, imo.

And spf, WTF were the Av's thinking trading Tanguay to Calgary? All you got back was Leopold and he's injured for three months. Die Flames, I hate them!

Strong post Okey Dokey...and by the way I'm super glad we're cool. I agree 100% with that whole post. I'm in love with Lupul..he is incredible. Pronger was a hit to your team..however you guys will come up with someone. It is sad to see a city win the cup that doesn't even understand the tradition and love for the game such as cities like ours.

Its going to be interesting this year to say the least. I look forward to sharing it with you all.

Sweet!!! I was looking for a reason to post in here today and the Wings just gave me one.
Greg Johnson a wing once more. Am I happy about it??? You know I think I am. Why...Thats a harder question. I think he'll add some much needed grit. I think that he'll pop in about 20-25 goals and maybe 20 assists. Maybe a bit too much credit but over all I think he'll be a great 3rd line addition. NOt much else going on in the league...but I'm sure we'll talk soon.

Nate, don't go in the sports bar. I had to post a picture you won't like.

I can't believe my Avs still haven't signed Svatos! I'm starting to get pissed!

Glad something good happened for your boys, Nate! October can't come too soon, eh?

Not the best picture, but how often can you find a picture of a hockey player's nice butt?

I must say that Tanguay trade shocked me... and being a fan of the Sutter-run Flames you would think I would be used to it.

Of course I didnt here about it until that evening when I saw it on the screen at a restaurant... they were showing a TSN feed I think... I almost spit out my drink

Sorry springboksfan, I think your GM got hosed

    My NW prediction:

    1. Flames (I am biased, but its not far fetched)
    2. Oilers (Thier offence is now the best in the div now that we stole Tang from Col and they added Lupul)
3/4. Minny/Colorado (not sold on Minny's new identity, this however is the best O they have ever had... Colorado's success will hinge on whether the psychotic new Theo can get his groove back... I think Leopold will fit in well there. He had a good defensive season with us, one of the best he has had, the reason he didnt do as well offensive was partly because Hamrlik and Phaneuf took over that responsibility... Leo will find his groove in Denver)
    5. Vancouver (*looks at defence* ouch *looks at offensive depth* pain... they have 2 things going for them, 1. no more cancerous bert, 2. Luongo... but Luongo couldnt get Florida to the playoffs depsite the fact that he is awesome in net...)

3 teams making the playoffs from this division

Either the blues or the stars will take the 8th seed! You heard it here first!

and, BTW, this forum is for "Sports Talk" - if the talk is purely about how hot a pic is of a particular athlete (not a discussion of his sporting ability) the correct place is the Celebs forum. Thanks.

Oh I love the game, not the players. I guess I should have added "If he plays with Hemsky I would not be surprised to see Lupul score 30+ goals, maybe 40". I definetely know my hockey, alright? Ogling players is just an added boner, er, bonus.

    haha :P

He will probably be your highest scoring player, he may be able to reach 40 on Hemsky's line... however last year's highest scoring player (Smyth) will go from 36 to the mid 20's... but the oil will still be the highest scoring team by far in our division

but Rolover and that 'defence' will keep you guys second to the Flames

Cant wait till the first BOA on the 5th!!!!

I just had to say something about last night's Dallas/Colorado game. Was anybody else out there amazed at Dallas' turn around. They looked like shit til the 3rd and then they came out and stunned the Av's. (Sorry Spring...) But damn that was a nice come back. I was actually rooting for the Av's due to the fact I have some of their players in my fantasy league but also on behalf of my Jub Hubby. (See Jub Hubby thread) LOL You know who you are baby!!!

    Any thoughts???

Oh yeah and the Wings will fuckin crush the Canucks tonight.

I'm getting excited about tomorrow nights Bruins game in Florida. Tim Thomas will start in goal and I think that's a good decision. He had a strong pre-season.

Zdeno Chara will wear the "C" this season. No surpise there since he signed the richest deal in Bruins history. Patrice Bergeron & Glen Murray will be alternates.

My buddy works for the Boston Globe and he hosts the suite at BankNorth/Fleet/Gaaaarden a few times during the season, so I make the trip up there to cheer on my team and drink all the free beer.

You see, you spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out that it was the other way around all the time.
