Beafous: The only Nick Fury that I read, and in my opinion, the only one that matters, was Nick Fury MAX. It's pretty old, and it's written by legendary gore guru Garth Ennis. Check it out.
MunSimpson: Yeah man. The way she got KO'd in the manga was just too fucking much. I went like 'oh shit' and just stared at the splash page. I preferred how she got killed in the movie version, because there she was a hellcat...in the manga they took the more sympathetic route. Hmm, then I again, I also preffered the movie's lighthouse scene since it's choreography was just unbelievable.

Re: Comics!
To be honest, I have not got the chance to see the movie. I've only read the manga and the novel. But I did Wikipedia her and they say how she dies in the movie and why she's vicious. I think it's cool that they made her vicious for different reasons in each one. In the movie she was bullied/mocked and her mom was a drunk prostitute, in the manga she was molested by her step father, and novel her drunk mother pimped her out and soon after her teacher and new step father molested her. I thought it was sad how her last thought in the movie (and I'm only going by what wikipedia said) was "I just didn't want to be a loser anymore..."
The manga death was definately gory. I kinda wanted her to beat Kiriyama (sp?) but knew she wouldn't. It just sucked because I read the novel AFTER reading the manga, and the novel made her death cheap. I wanted a full showdown. Lol.
And the lighthouse scene was amazing in the manga and novel, I would kill to see it in the movie.

Re: Comics!
I'm fairly certain that you can get a DVD off of E-bay. I really didn't have much of a problem snagging a copy since, well, piracy isn't legally frowned upon in my country. In the movie, you'll really want to kill Yuko yourself, especially when you see how the girls react to when the fat one got poisoned.
The manga and novel versions didn't have a fight between Mitsuko and Kiriyama; it was more like a huge pity party where we just want 'Mr.-I-just-got-shot-in-the-face-but-I-still-won't-die' to finish her off for the sake of our sanity. In the movie on the other hand, we get, in a span of five minutes: shooting, stabbing, screaming and some slight electrocution in a ware-house battle that will make you holla.
On a side note, I myself haven't read the novel version. How exactly did she die there? I heard her face blew up like a cherry bomb.

Re: Comics!
No, she was pimped out by her mother in the movie. Or at elast, he tried and she pushed him down the stairs and killed him.
See, everyone is so dazzled byt he art is Endsong, but it's really not that good. The coloring is all way too air brushed and the poses really aren;t that good. They're all stiff and if you notice, he has one pose he really likes for his women (chest out, chin up, hip to the side in some swanky style) and a lot of his body drawings aren;t so great. In fact, most of the time, his women look like strippers and hookers.
The thing that really gets me, though is that the faces are so dead and unexpressive when they need to be really emotive. I don't get the sense of energy or action such as when the cuckoos scream 'watch out' or god forbid that panel where emma yells 'there!' in the danger room. It looks like she's reaching out to grab a baton in a moment of charismatic glee.
He's just good at making people look pretty (and all his blondes look the same) and lifelike (which isn't surprising since he uses live models) but not active or convincing.

At least he draws a gorgeous Scott Summers. I really like Greg Land, and yeah, all of his blondes look alike, but I appreciate the odd sense of realism he gets. Besides, his Doctor Doom is freaking awesome.

Re: Comics!
In the novel Kayoko shoots Hiroki out of fear thinking he's coming to kill her, and then while he dies he tells Kayoko that he loves her and that to find the other people who can get her off she needs to start two fires. Kayoko starts crying and Mitsuko comes up behind, and asks "aren't you going to die with him??" and then Mitsuko shoots Kayoko in the face. Then Mitsuko picks up Kayoko's gun and goes "now, what was this about starting two fires?" and suddnely she gets pummled by uzi bullets from Kiriyama. Then while she gets shot she reflects on herself and when she told Hiroki her reason for killing Takako was "I just chose to take instead of being taken from," and then she asks herself "when did I become like this?" And then we learn she was raped by three men in a run down apartment and it was videotaped after them paying her mom, and that when she confided in her teacher, the only person she thought she could trust, her teacher just molested her too, and then her friend saw the teacher and isntead of being a friend, she spread a rumor (which lead to the teacher getting fired.) And then when her mom tried to make Mitsuko do it again, she accidentaly killed her Mom and then staged it as a break in-kill. Then she was made to live with distant relatives who's children bullied her, and when the child died by jumping off the roof the mother blamed Mitsuko and then the father stuck up for her, only to molest her as well. And that was how she became a hollow shell. Mitsuko then fired like a few more shots, but he wore a bullet proof vest and he just killed her. Nothing fancy, just getting shot. I was disapointed.

Re: Comics!
I loved the death/fight scene between Takako and Kazushi Niida. In the novel she actually managed to gouge his eyes out with her finger nails and then slam the ice pick in his mouth. And in the movie I heard she stabs the jack knife in his genitals, haha.
And yours?

Re: Comics!
Hmm, Utsumi, the leader of the lighthouse girls. She was the last of them to die after the gunfight, and before she passed on, she angrily shouts at her friends' dead bodies, something like: "We could have all made it... stupid, we're so stupid!" I went, 'holy shit'; then 'I hope you die Yuko!!!'.
In the movie, Takako pretty much brutalizes Shiida, which is the exact opposite of what happened in the Manga. She lunges at him with a knife, drags him down, then stabs his balls
The Japanese are crazy.

Re: Comics!
Haha. The lighthouse scene was amazing. I would love to see it on film. Yuko was crazy, and I loved how the manga made her so much more insane than in the novel. Yuka's death in the manga looked so gross, I almost put that as my favorite death.
Takako was basically the same way in the novel as in the manga. Only in the manga he beat her up a lot more and the way she killed him was different. Finally in the novel she gets him to the ground and she gouges out his eyes and stabs him. Also, the confontation was a little different in the novel. He basically told her "join me!" and she said "no" and he said "no, if you don't, I'll rape you." and then she tried to run off and he shot her in the leg. Not much different, but still.

Yumiko and Yukiko, the hilltop girls. The one in the manga where they were asking for Shuuya almost made me cry
Kiriyama is a ratfink.
Hiroki was the most different, since in the movies he didn't know jack about martial arts, or the act of self-preservation for that matter.
Also, it's fun (geeky) to note that in every medium, that stupid-ass kevlar gets to save Kiriyama's life. In the film it saves him from Mistuko, while in the manga, from Hiroki. God I wanted him to die so bad.

I thought the sickel was so sexy and it fit Mitsuko perfectly.
...my weapon of choice I think would most definately be something that kills them... but silently. Because in the novel it was always the sounds that attracted Mitsuko and Kiriyama. So if I stuck with something quiet at first like a bow gun it would be great. And then I would start collecting the weapons. I mean, of course it would be convinient to get an uzi, but I would be scared to fire it. Haha.

Re: Comics!
Is your friend for real? God, I hate the idea, not because I'm some underground freak or whatever, but odds are, the US version is gonna' just fill the screen with beautiful 25 year olds from the WB. Hell, I can just imagine the cast of the O.C. killing each other...hmm, which admittedly isn't all that bad.
But BR is supposed to be social commentary, and a Japanese-centric one at that. What's the US message gonna be, 'it's hard to be a kid'?
What the hell, I hope they don't butcher it. AT least not like they will 'The Descent' from what I hear. God that is such an awesome movie.
At any rate, since I'm bored, I'm gonna start up with a US cast for the thing. The instructor needs to be Paul Heyman. Or quite possibly Elton John!

I just think they won't be able to pull of the context and the culture commentary either. The movie is surreal in that Japanese kids 'don't do that' and yet they very much do. This would totally just be seen as 'kids today are violent' if it was American-made.
It's going to suck and it's going to be bikini babes with guns, basically.
I don't identify with 'geek'. I think I'm a 'dork'. Plus, I know how to make myself look good and I've got the tude to pull it all off. Geeks wilt, I trample through.

Re: Comics!
I'm in that same boat. BR is the only manga I read since I was in 6th grade. I used to read some Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon ones back then, but I stopped.
But yeah, like y'all have stated, BR in america is going to be super models with machine guns and knives. But. I'm trying to keep an open mind. It's on Lionsgate, so it could be really dark and gory. Let's cross our fingers, lol. I hope they make some of the characters with the same traits/back ground as the japaneese counterpart. Like, an american version of Mitsuko and Kiriyama.
An American version of Mitsuko... DAKOTA FANNING!
Haha, just kidding! But seriously, it's going to be hard coming up with a cast because they are all supposed to be middle school students. But also, as I stated, they are probably going to select 24 year olds.

Paris Hilton as Mitsuko Souma? Haha, oh God. I can see it now, she slices someone's neck in half, then says "that's hot".
The Olsen Twins could be the girls at the hilltop, at which point I will pay double to see them get mowed down by a Kiriyama.
Cody banks could be Yoshi, and he should die like he did in the manga version
Other than that, what HAS lionsgate done recently? I'm too lazy to look it up.
P.S. Back in primary school, I had the entire Dragon Ball Z collection, from 1-45. I also had a friend tape Sailor Moon from Japan back when VHS was still serious

Re: Comics!
Since we're talking about comic book characters who should be played by people, I think....that Daryl Hannah (Elle Driver From Kill Bill Vol. 2) Should play Emma Frost....I don't know what it is, but when I see her act, and her look, she just seems to exude White Queen/Emma Frost to me....
Also I think you're doubting the potential of them getting decent actors for BR, I'm sure, and even though I dislike the man to pieces if Tarantino got a hold of it, he'd get some decent actors to play the roles, like that Go Go Yabouri girl....
But seriously they might pull realy good actors, I mean I think the fact that it's based off Manga, means not a lot of the famous stars will even bother with it, and will get lots of fresh up and coming actor[s]s/ess['] or ones who make movies because they actually care more about the movie than the money, like Milla Jovovich for example, she makes movies because she likes to.
Seriously though Daryl Hannah for Emma Frost!

Re: Comics!
Ironically, the girl who played Go Go in Kill Bill was the girl who played Takako in BR. Also, Quintin said he also wanted to get the girl who played Mitsuko to play as Go Go's sister, but the actress had to turn it down. So, I just thought that was cool to know.
Well, I know LionsGate did both Saw's, Hostel, and I believe they are releasing Catacombs (the new horror with Pink in it.) So, they release some pretty gory stuff. And don't get me wrong, I think BR could be done greatly.
And I actually see your point E_P. Milla Jovovich did Resident Evil and Ultraviolet because she wanted to, not because she thought it would win her her an oscar. So you can get a good cast, I just don't want them to lose the... insane part? The part that makes you go "...oh my God... these kids are 15...," and destroying it with 21 year old actors.

Re: Comics!
Effortless: I dunno man, Darryl's a little too masculine to be an Emma Frost. In a perfect world, It'd be Charlize Theron, since in that world, Scarlet Johanssen is also gonna play Susan Storm - - but that's just me
And like Mun says, one of BR's strengths is that you knew that those were 15 year olds on screen, getting stabbed, shot, and pummeled to death. I don't think a lot of backstage moms are gonna allow their little up and comers to go through that.
Mun: Oh yeah, I actually loved Eli Roth's direction of Hostel (Cabin Fever sucked mind you). There's even some homage to the Japanese film Suicide Club (excellent movie) in there, most notably the train scene. And Kou SHibasaki, known otherwise as Mitsuko SOuma, was actually too BUSY (she's a top face in Japan) to take the part that tarantino offered. Haha, take that America!!

But what I found odd, and I don't want anyone jumping me, but I don't think Kou Shibasaki fit Mitsuko. I mean, because Mitsuko is supposed to be the hottest girl in the school... and I don't think Kou is that pretty. Takako and Mitsuko are supposed to be the hottest girls in school (and in different ways) and I think Takako's actress, Chiaki Kuriyama, is so pretty, but not so much with Kou. Am I the only one?

Cap could never be pro (See Marvel 1602). Tony Stark was probably the one who shot him in the head before they sent him through the portal.
Emma's rationale is that while technically the location fo the mutants is known, it isn't public knoweldge and publicized like the Registration Whores are. I mean, come on, televised de-maskings? And we all can see how well things are going for Mr. Parker.
Emma was right and Carol deserved the mind fuck. I see lots of shovels and I wouldn't have it any other way just to guilt Stark. Uber-tool...

Re: Comics!
Actually, Millar said that de-maskings are NOT supposed to be televised. Parker only chose to do that as a full show of support for Tony, anyone else can just get a form and pass it over to S.H.I.E.L.D.
And in Grant's New X-Men, Charles revealed that they were mutants while he was on a talk show, so from what I know, it's definitely public knowledge. Even in Kyle and Yost's New X-Men, televison reports about 'Sentinels protecting the mutants in the Xavier Institute' were shown.
