The 411 on Mt. Dew
Regular Mountain Dew soft drink (8 fl. oz)
Contains: Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, concentrated orange juice and other natural flavors, citric acid, sodium benzoate (preserves freshness), caffeine, sodium citrate, gum arabic, erythorbic acid (preserves freshness), calcium disodium EDTA (to protect flavor) and brominated vegetable oil, yellow 5.

High-Fuctose Corn Syrup is produced by processing corn starch to yield glucose, and then processing the glucose to produce a syrup that contains fructose.
A link exists between obesity and high HFCS consumption, especially from soft drinks
The fructose in HFCS is converted to fatty acids by the liver at a greater rate than is glucose.
Sodium Benzoate. As a food additive it is used as a preservative, effectively killing most yeasts, bacteria and fungi. Sodium benzoate is effective only in acidic conditions (pH < 3.6) making its use most prevalent in foods such as preserves, salad dressings (vinegar), carbonated drinks (carbon dioxide), jams (citric acid), fruit juices (citric acid), and chinese food sauces (soy, mustard, and duck). It is also found in alcohol-based mouthwash.
Gum arabic, a natural gum also called gum acacia, is a substance that is taken from two sub-Saharan species of the acacia tree, Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal. It is used primarily in the food industry as a stabilizer
Gum arabic is a complex mixture of saccharides and glycoproteins, which gives it one of its most useful properties: it is perfectly edible
Citric acid is a weak organic acid found in citrus fruits. It is a natural preservative and is also used to add an acidic (sour) taste to foods and soft drinks.
Caffeine is a xanthine alkaloid compound that acts as a stimulant in humans.
Caffeine is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant, having the effect of temporarily warding off drowsiness and restoring alertness
The most common short-term effects of drinking caffeine are: caffeine is a mild stimulant that makes you feel more alert, makes your heart beat faster, is a diuretic, so it makes you go to the toilet more, raises your body temperature and makes your digestive system produce more acid.
It can take 4 to 6 hours for the effects of caffeine to wear off.
Moderate caffeine intake is probably not harmful to healthy adults. However, regular large amounts (over 350mg/day) may cause dependency, also called caffeinism and adversely affect health.
Large amounts of cola drinks (34 - 68 fl.oz per day) as well as daily morning coffee may also lead to excessive caffeine intake.
Some of the most common symptoms of excessive caffeine intake are:
· chronic insomnia
· persistent anxiety
· depression
· restlessness
· heart palpitations
· upset stomach
· headaches when caffeine is not present
Contrary to popular belief, Mt. Dew does not contain the most caffeine, Coca-Cola does. 10 mg. Per 12oz. serving more!
Calcium Diosodium EDTA is added as a preservative to prevent catalytic oxidation by metal ions or stabilizer and for iron fortification.
Brominated Vegetable Oil: The addition of bromine increases the density of the oil, and the amount of bromine is carefully controlled to achieve a density that is the same as the water in the drink. As a result, the BVO remains suspended in the water instead of forming separate layers.

Re: The 411 on Mt. Dew
Addendum: It's supposed to be "High Fructose Corn Syrup"
Not Fuctose
Although, the latter does sound better.

Re: The 411 on Mt. Dew
Gum arabic is a strange ingredient. I wouldn't have expected an exotic tree gum to be in Mt. Dew. Yahoo Mt. Dew!

Re: The 411 on Mt. Dew
^Mt. Dew DOES (I promise I read it somewhere reliable A.K.A. not the internet) lower your sperm count, but then again, so does having a laptop on your lap...so who cares?

I've tried it before, too. Mt. Dew does not taste like urine. Unless, maybe you added salt to it and drank it warm.
It does look like urine, I'll give you that.
Something that looks and tastes like urine is Miller High Life Beer (warm, of course) Yuck!

Re: The 411 on Mt. Dew
Okay, the sterility thing is over exaggerrated. Drinking things liek Mt. Dew will not cause significant sperm count decline in any way.
Thbt. But still, try not to drinkt he stuff if I can help it. Not that good.
