Odd, isn't it, that there is so little information or follow-through in the media with Biden's meetings this week.

Most of the buzz was on January 10th....the same day as the thread was started and by Friday it is almost like there are no stories coming out of the meetings at all.

But it looks as the recommendations might include:

- National gun tracking.

- More Mental health dollars

- Firing technology changes to weapons.

- Restrictions on magazine capacity

Biden also said on Friday that he has no preconceived ideas for reform ... but will propose changes on Tuesday. Could any WH produce a document in that short of time?

My point was that it is moronic to go into the third page of a topic and call the OP out on a mistake that common sense tells us can't have been overlooked in those three pages. Also, your logic is completely faulty. Unless the topic is a "lexicon" style thread - "what are you listening to right now" or "when was the last time you jerked off, and where" type of stuff - it is always a conversation that evolves from the OP but leaves it behind to move on to other stuff. EVEN "On-topic" threads are like that. So to jump into the third page without having read the topic, and responding to the OP alone, makes you seem like a spammer. The coolest thing about this legislation is that there is a Democratic President and Senate and a VP leading the charge who has an almost encyclopedic grasp of the facts.

They will put out a massive bill that has no chance of passing in its entirety. However that will be the starting ground for negotiations with the terrorist republicans. In the end they themselves and NRA has been polled to agree with closing the 'gun-show' loop hole that allows internet and gun show purchases to occur with no check, the NRA wants desperately to blame mental health so that should be a no brainer on more funds, restricting magazine capes to reflect use should be a no brainer as well..... the other stuff would be nice to haves that will not pass but they are there so republicans can claim they have butchered the bad parts of the bill and then get behind the good portions.

All very good but necessary political theater.

I had thoughts of how nice if would be to move to Canada (or, a much better alternative, wishing I had been born Canadian and still lived there) as early as the late 1970's, long before it was "cool" to want to emigrate there.

Canada is right at the U. S. doorstep, as I mentioned - THOUSANDS of miles of shared frontier. I think there are plenty of people much farther removed - such as Brazilians, Polish, Australians, Senegalese, Koreans - who can and do have valid viewpoints and opinions about the United States.

Melissa Harris Perry dedicated most of her show to it on either Saturday or Sunday. (I forget which day I woke up to the morning talk shows and just let it wash over me for a while) One of her panelist was where i heard and agreed with the concept that they will throw the entire kitchen sink on the table and see what republicans object to.

My guess is the republican will reject everything with huge platitudes against restrictions on the second amendment. It will then take several weeks before any agreeing positions are sussed out from the republicans by the press. The sad part is they could actually take part in several bipartisan pieces that most folks agree on. Adding dollars to mental health funds and closing the so called 'gun show' loop hole so everyone making a purchase is screened for criminal or sanity issues that would normally preclude purchase.
