Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
I have, just once, when I applied for scholarship in college. I never know my results. It's exhausting mentally, with all the topsy-turvy questions etc. I felt having a brain burst afterward.
So have you? Why? How do you feel about it?
You may or may not tell your results here :p

Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
Yes. I don't recall my results. Just that it suggested I wanted a job where I was left alone and did the same thing all the time. Like a janitor or assembly line worker or something. Which is probably the reason I don't recall what it was. :)

^I don't think the result of an MMPI test is 'pass' or 'fail' :?

Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
Took one many years ago and remember two things. 1. It "confirmed" I was homosexual (lol, I was already "out" and quite comfortable with myself in that regard). 2. Ego-strength was very high. I just ran across the result s few days ago, so if you want to compare notes, let meknow.

In a sense, it does, Freefall, but I need to explain.
Very often, in the States, one takes the MMPI in the course of either 1)enlisting in the military or 2)applying for a job. By the word "passing", Palbert probably means that the results of his test did not disqualify him for either one of these situations.
In situations in which a given applicant applies for a given job, most of the time the employers look for signs of an Anti-social Personality Disorder, because these individuals have a propensity for pilferage. Who wants to hire a would-be thief?
I, too, "passed", but it did show a tendency towards homosexuality.
I have studied the MMPI to a great extent. Folks, it has its flaws. Even its most vigorous proponents give it only a 70% accuracy.
Besides this, a little bit of investigation will reveal the fact that a savvy person can "beat" it.

Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
^I know this. However, the criteria of passing or failing is relative, depending on the institutions.
But isn't it obvious if someone tries to outwit the test? In my sense, everyone has a dark side or they are all Jesus.

Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
I took a TAT at the same time as the MMPI and boy! was that an eye-opener. The ghosts which haunted me 25 years ago are still hanging around.

Don't think I ever received a grade. This was all very secretive way back then.
In any event I was never institutionalized.
I was more concerned with the SAT and later, the LSAT.
(Thanks Johann.)

Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
I took it years ago and it did reveal homosexual tendencies, perhaps because I tried to hide it by choosing answers which I thought were more masculine than others.
-
Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
I took it as a freshman in college and basically said I was gay and preferred working alone. There was a false positive with hypomania that manifested itself as SAD which shows that tests alone do not provide all the results.

Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
^Normally, RJ, they won't give it to you in the course of treatment.
It consists of a whole bunch of questions that seem innocent at first. ("I believe in a Devil", reads one; "I have sneaked into a theater", reads another)
The evaluations lie in the fact that people with certain mental illnesses answer the questions one way, while "normal" people answer them another. Oftentimes, the correlations don't make sense. For example, lesbians answer "I believe in a Devil" more often than heterosexual women.
A significant number of psychologists view the MMPI as obsolete, while, at the same time, admit that it does have useful applications.
I don't think they will ever give you one.

is it similar to one of those personality surveys that they give for employment with the "i agree, disagree, i agree definitely and etc"? what tests do they give out now?

Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
^Some employers use a stripped-down, less accurate version of the test.
If the test you took asked you to rate "I like mechanics magazines", you have certainly taken the test.

Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
I haven't... maybe when considering to move to Minnesota

Re: Have you ever taken an MMPI test?
After taking it I began to suspect I should not have admitted to having any knowledge of or interest in "Alice in Wonderland".

Gazpacho has ancient roots. There are a number of theories of its origin, including as an Arab soup of bread, olive oil, water and garlic that arrived in Spain and Portugal with the Moors, or via the Romans with the addition of vinegar.[2] Once in Spain it became a part of Andalusian cuisine, particularly Córdoba and Seville, using stale bread, garlic, olive oil, salt, and vinegar, similar to ajoblanco.[3]
There are many modern variations of gazpacho, often in different colors and omitting the tomatoes and bread in favor of avocados, cucumbers, parsley, watermelon, grapes, meat stock, seafood, and other ingredients.[4]
Neat.

There were too many questions about it - it seemed like a trap that could peg me as paranoid or something.

Yes, I misspelled the word "barbiturates," though wikipedia specifies sleeping pills in the reference. (click the link)
