I went to Youtube to listen to both artists. Gentlemen, I find it very refreshing to see good voices coming back into style. I had thought, for a while, that sooner or later, the use of the human voice as an instrument would become obsolete, in the same way that the clavichord and the lyre has become obsolete as instruments.

I am happy to see that I was wrong. Those two both really do have good,agile voices.

I think I prefer Malik's voice, though. It doesn't sound pre-pubescent as does Bieber's, and I find that it has more depth and richness of tone..

Zayn Malik is my favorite in One Direction... beyond the others... he's has a very wide vocal range and can hit notes with ease. He's taken a more active role in the group with regards to their most recent album "Take Me Home" rather than the first album they did.

Oh no you didn't! Reggaeton isn't rap in Spanish. That's a big time mistake too many people make! Reggaeton has its roots in bachata, merengue, and reggae. This isn't rap at all. While it may sound like some artists will "rap", the actual genre has its roots in completely different genres. Oh and in reggaeton, artists actually sing. They don't just talk because they lack vocal variation (kinda like shit artists like Lil Wayne, 50 Cent and others)...



An artist like Randy (who is black Puerto Rican I might add) has one of the widest vocal ranges of any reggaeton artist...

It's a huge error to categorize reggaeton as Spanish rap when it isn't anything of the sort.

and i don't know who zayn malik is. all i know is that i heard some songs from one direction and it wasn't anything jaw dropping or wow, dude can sing. lady gaga sings better than them and she ain't even all that. o town does have better looking dudes. at least they look like they hit puberty. can't say the same thing about one direction. i feel like a pedophile looking at them. with that said, justin beiber looks way too young for me. he does have the androgynous look but he looks way too young. maybe in a couple of years when he's able to grow facial hair.

Reggaeton didn't take elements of rap at all. It's beat is more tied to bachata and merengue. Reggae is also influencing it. It's not hip-hop and it doesn't take hip-hop elements. Have you listened to much of it? Listen to reggae artists like Cultura Profetica and bachata artists like Prince Royce and then get back to me.

Don't try to say that reggaeton took elements of rap when reggaeton arguably came before rap... again it goes back to reggae... which was sung in Jamaica, Dominica and Puerto Rico in both English and Spanish.

Zayn Malik is one of the key singers in One Direction, and he has a superb vocal range... he hits notes very well. I don't even like the others of One Direction... Harry Styles is okay... but really, Zayn Malik is one of the best in the group. And i have every right to bring up rap when a rap fan says "One Direction can't even sing". Oh and most in One Direction are 19/20... they aren't children. They are still getting to their 20s... but, they aren't kids. Bieber is younger than them.

I have a theory that singers like that have to strike some kind of emotional chord, though. Lex.

Remember Hank Williams? He had a horrible singing voice, barely on-tune sometimes. But somehow, through those monaural speakers, he reached deep into the hearts of a lot of country people.

By contrast, I don't think the Brothers have that kind of rapport.

Just did some research. The current album sits at #4 on the American chart. Their previous album was named Album of the Year by Paste, but Pitchfork complained "Every instrument sounds perfectly placed, and that's a shame because the Avetts got more mileage out of their rough edges than most bands this decade." In short, they didn't like it because it didn't sound rough enough. :)

Rap isn't music. The 'rapper' uses a closed speaking voice not an open singing voice. It's more like snarling than singing.

Some producer might add lots of background music and a chorus of female melodists to make the thing bearable and less monotonous and to soften the usual unpleasant aggressive attitude.

Justin Bieber is only 18 years old and is one of those people who look younger than his age. He does look feminine in some pictures I've seen of him, but he doesn't look out of place if he was 15. I think of how young Micky Rooney looked all of his life.
