So I've been talking with this guy for 7 months and i really like him and he likes me, and actually we are gonna meet on Thanksgiving.. But the thing is that he has a record and has been in prision for 4years he has done his time and actually he told me his story when we first started talking.
I guess what im asking is do you think im being foolish for persuing a relationship with a man who has had a record, or should I continue? He makes me very happy and we have said I Love You to each other and he is one of those people who will say what he means.

Please let me know what you think I should do. I really like him and can only see myself with him and nobody else

If you haven't even met him yet, it is impossible to say what you should do.

I'd have reservations based on the crime committed. I know I could never date someone that held someone else up at gunpoint or something else along those lines. I'd need to know the crime to offer an opinion.

He hasnt done anything with guns the only thing he did was braking and entering with theft, and he has changed and is trying to keep his life on track

How long ago did he commit this crime? How old was he, and how old is he now?

he was 16 he went to jail at 18 and is 24 now

Yeah, at this point, I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. Proceed with caution.

It depends on the crime he committed. Are you not comfortable revealing what that was?

four years sounds like an absurdly long time for theft ...

I'd give him a chance, just make sure you have plenty of house insurance.

OK, so he's been out for two years with no further brushes with the law? I'd be inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt, provided the circumstances that led him to commit his crimes have changed and are no longer an issue. It may have been simple youthful indiscretion, and I'd hate people to hold it against him for life.

thank you guys and he hasnt been in trouble with any kind of authority since, I'm being careful with it and i honestly dont wanna ve with anybody else. I just hate how people have brought me down because they dont wanna see me happy and can't get past his past

You didn't say if you have met him yet.
Meet in person is way different from love chatting online or phone.

OK, here's another point of view for you to consider when you meet him in person.

He was locked up 4 years for theft. Just because he does not have any brushes with the law since he's been out does not mean he has stopped stealing. For example, I am very proud to say I have no speeding tickets for the last 6 years. It does not mean that I don't speed. It only means I haven't been caught speeding...yet.

Some concerns for you to find out about ALL your dates regardless if they're ex convicts or not:
Does he have a job? Is he able to support himself financially? Is he currently into drugs? A lot of drug addicts steal to support their drug habits.

we have met years ago in school. but then lost contact, and have just recently started talking, and its just that he hasn't been able to get up here. Or me down there

I agree with what you're saying and yes he has a job and he is the type of guy that when he doesnt have a job is always looking for a new job. the only thing he does as far as drugs is pot, and he knows better than to ask me for money or he'll be out the door

If he makes you happy, and there's no concern for your safety or things like that, then by all means enjoy yourself.

Look elsewhere - none of this sounds like it will lead to anything long term. Just a hunch! Plus if he commits a crime again (and theft has a high repeat incidence) he may well draw you into it and that would NEVER be worth it. Guilty by association is a very real thing!

but the thing is he has told me repeatly that he would never put my life in jerperdy or have me in trouble on several occasions, and I believe him

He makes me veery happy and honestly he makes me feel more safe than anybody ive talked to in the past. I dont know what it is about him or why, but as they say you can help who you fall for and that's what happened to me I'v falllen

He was sentenced at 18.

^No difference, really. If he committed the crime at 16, this was probably* his first crime.

*Or probably not. Who knows.
