I looked around a bit on line, and all of the sites I saw from that area haven’t been updated, but it sounds like that area got hit hard.
He seemed really scared last night.
I hope you’re right, and he’s ok.
I'm worrying about refuji too. I hope he's OK. :(
He said in a previous post that he's in Maplewood, but I've no idea whether that was a part of NJ that was affected badly by flooding, does anybody know?
Also, does anyone know how many homes are still without power? Maybe he just can't get online.
Other NYC area JUBbers I'm looking out for are NaughtyArousal, loki81, and Criostoir.
Hope they'll check back in soon! :)
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
I'm alive and kicking.
no real damages in my immediate area, but we lost power late Monday afternoon and as of about an hour ago, it's still out.... I was mostly house-bound on Tuesday, with everything in my town closed and the roads leading out flooded.
this morning, I was finally able to get onto the turnpike and I'm currently posting from my company's Central Jersey office (where they've been on generator since Monday). supposedly the Jersey City waterfront is a mess. our corporate office is shutdown for at least the next week, and I've heard that the PATH may be down for 7-10 days.
luckily I had a vacation planned anyways, but we may bug out and drive up to Portland, Maine tonight just so I can get a hot shower and some room service... gotta call them tonight and confirm they're undamaged (and can accommodate us 2 days early)
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
Newark here and have been with no power for almost 2 days now
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
.
I want to compare with the "Japan tsunami" threads sorry ....
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
Nice lead, ChickenGuy. Thanks.
I read one report that said 70% of Maplewood’s residents are still without power, then another report said 40%.
One person said they have had no power for three days, and one person was not happy about all of the traffic lights that are out.
It’s supposed to get pretty cold tonight. I hope they’re all able to keep warm and not get sick.
I’m sure refUG and several other JUBbers are going stir-crazy without their JUB fix by now. :)
Hopefully we’ll here from them all soon.
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
just giving you guys a heads up. had to go all the way down to south orange's starbucks to use the internet. the power went out at around 8ish when the storm made landfall. ever since then, there's been no power. they said that the power will be back on in like 7 to 10 days or possibly before then. there's a lot of damage out here but it could have been a whole lot worse. there's a lot of trees down around the way. funny thing is some places like irvington and south orange has power while other spots like maplewood are assed out.
it's bad but not that bad. they're making it out to be like katrina but it's not that bad. well around here that is. there's powerlines down and trees as expected. it's not like there's houses blown off their foundation and stuff. don't know about the death toll but it might be small. people are wilding out over gas because gas stations are closed down due to no electricity. people are going all across the state for gas. new york got hit up bad too but they seem to be making more process than we are out here.
but yeah, hope everybody else is doing okay. thanks to everybody that showed their concerned and asked if i was alright. didn't mean to keep you guys worried and etc. (*8*) heard the word is that there's supposed to be another storm on the way. hopefully not.
about to head back up in the dark with my small flashlight and walk back home. they might have power which is very unlikely. 1
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
WB Refuji glad to see you're ok-ish, hope things get back to "normal" soon
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
Nice to hear from refUG. I just knew he could be resourceful if he applied himself. I’ll bet he looked at porn and put his hand in his pocket to rub out a quick one while he was at S Orange’s Starbucks.
Still haven’t heard any more squeals of any kind out of Vannie since post #11 of this thread.
And no sign of FPNY, either, since the 29th.

*squeals with delight*
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
My neighborhood is alive and thriving. New York in general is a mess, though. It's really crazy.
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
Glad to hear you guys are all ok. Keep us informed.
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
Until yesterday, Thursday, I had no power. It went out overnite Monday, and I spent Tues thru 4pm Thursday with no power, and no heat! All of the coffee shops and libraries were full of people trying to plug in and load up their phones and such. Trees are down everywhere here, and I hear a couple of people were electricuted by live wires even a day or two after the storm.
I went thru nothing though, compared to the coast. Ugh...I spent this morning looking at first hand YouTube videos of the storm and it's aftermath.....so sad. :(
Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
Who would have ever thought that CHICAGO (with the wind velocity and huge waves) would ever experience a tropical storm?
I was far away from the storm as it was doing its havoc - clear skies in Texas and Oklahoma. I was ending a 34-days-long trip and I got home 18 hours ago.
I am very happy to see members, in general, reporting that they've made it through all the scariness and uncertainty of this storm, and generally came out unscathed (outside of power failures). So far nearly 100 people were not nearly as fortunate (and more than 150 if you include people in the Caribbean). It's only coming out now, late in the week, how hard New York City's "forgotten" borough of Staten Island was savaged.
I still wish that CRIOSTOIR would come in here and tell us that he's OK. Of course he's been nearly inactive in recent months, so his absence isn't AS alarming as it could be, but I'm worried. Hoboken got hit really hard. Interesting that Hoboken isn't mentioned anywhere in this thread, outside the comment of the Mayor being a tennis mom.

Uh, b-b-but...that would mean that you would have an ORPHANED post...right? :p

dingdingdingdingdingdingding...WE HAVE A WINNER! First guy in the thread to really "call" it correctly. Of course this isn't really a congratulations, but we're glad that you're OK and intact, R.

Now, you KNOW that ain't nice...of course one can wish that it had taken as radical a turn in the OPPOSITE direction than it actually did, taking it out to sea (and perhaps causing problems only on the Massachusetts islands and around Montauk Point, if even that).

To me, it's just bizarre that it would go SO westerly into New Jersey and such, because that is not the prevailing direction of weather movement at all. How did it even make that kind of turn? Perhaps somebody on here who knows meteorology can explain how this happened?

Re: anyone else weathering out Hurricane Sandy?
Yes, I am OK. Yes, I lost power for a week. Yes, my posts have been infrequent. By the time I got the PM here this thread had vanished into the back pages!
Hoboken has not finished recovering, and won't for months. Biden was just looking at the damage. My building is OK, but many others have lost everything. A local food pantry was completely wiped out...but donations put it back in "business" within a few days.
I opined halfway through the first week that they had to have been screening the National Guard guys for looks before sending them to Hoboken. I didn't see any that were even close to ugly, and some of them were Very Much Not Ugly, if you receive my meaning!
