Re: If Madonna Allowed Her Fans to Pick the Songs For Her Next Concert
As a hardcore Madonna fan who's now seen her live six times (not to mention the innumerous pay-cable and DVD viewings of her concerts), I would obviously want to see her perform some of her more obscure songs or songs that she's never performed live rather than the tried-and-true hits that she recycles from tour to tour.
One of my all-time favorite Madonna moments was her performance of "Bedtime Story" at the 1995 Brit Awards, a song that she has not performed live before or since -- so that would definitely be on my list.
"Bad Girl" and "Waiting" from the "Erotica" album also come to mind.
"Amazing" from the "Music" album is another.
"Nothing Really Matters" from "Ray of Light" as well.
"Hollywood" and "Love Profusion" from "American Life."
Some "vintage" songs from her early years that she has not performed since 1985's "The Virgin Tour" would also be cool -- "Borderline," "Burning Up," "Angel."
-
Re: Madonna - Coolest person in the universe!
Kate No personality Moss made the list. The other entries must be discredited. David Beckham too? WTF? Has anybody actually heard the guy speak?
Madonna WAS a cool lady until she started prancing around in skin tight leotards and talking with a "British" accent. [-X
-
Re: Madonna - Coolest person in the universe!
I'm really over her. She does everything for attention. It's getting old. She is just like one of those emo kids. Trying to be different to try to get some attention. The problem with that is you just seem to drift back into the crowd.
-
Re: Madonna - Coolest person in the universe!
In addition to the quasi-British accent, the Kabbalah--and subsequent dropping thereof--was a bit much.
But as for staying on top of the pop charts for twenty years, I'm happy to give credit where credit is due. And if you enjoy her music in any sort--and have a few hundred dollars to throw out there--she's an amazing performer.

Madonna Adopts African Baby-baby To Write Sequel To Mommie Dearest In Twenty Years
On the one hand, I'm glad that all these poor third-world children are getting a chance at a good life but on the other hand, does anyone doubt that these Hollywood types are doing all this adopting because it's the trendy thing to do? Do they realize that adoption is not the same thing as getting the latest shoes or clothes or getting the coolest bling? Madonna, Angelina, Sharon Stone (her poor kid ain't gonna survive her crazy ass), etc. I don't know whether to be happy or scared for these poor kids.

Madonna Adopts African Baby-baby To Write Sequel To Mommie Dearest In Twenty Years
it always seems when their popularity is fading they have to gimmick their way back to the spotlight, even if it's at the expense of a child. it's great that the child may have a chance at a real life and survival, but at what expense will it come

That may be true of some, but I think it's a generalization to apply that to all celebrities.
Anybody who has followed Madonna's career during the 23 years she's been in the limelight knows that she has always been a great humanitarian who has used her celebrity to draw attention to the AIDS epidemic more than any other public figure in history, in large part because she watched a good number of very close friends die from the disease in its early years. That pretty much negates all the derogatory comments made about her over the years that every move she makes is calculated to garner publicity for herself. Those who label her a shallow, attention-starved media whore are merely projecting their own self-loathing onto an easy target.
Furthermore, she mentioned in an interview more than two years ago that she and Guy Ritchie wanted more children and were considering adopting a child from an impoverished third world nation, since she is now pretty much past her child-bearing years. That was well before "Brangelina" made the adoption of refugee children the supposed latest Hollywood "trend."
If Madonna could adopt every impoverished or orphaned child in the world, I have no doubt she would do it, and I suspect the same can be said of Brad and Angie, as well as Sharon Stone, who has also devoted herself tirelessly to raising world consciousness about AIDS. I fail to see any shallow, self-serving motives in what these people are doing, making the world a better place for the least fortunate among us.
In years to come, I suspect we will see Madonna devoting more and more of her time and energy to the philanthropic endeavors close to her heart. It wouldn't at all surprise me to see her serving as a "den mother" to a boarding house full of orphans when she's 60.
I think that failure to recognize her capacity for compassion and her great need to relieve human suffering in the world says a lot more about the character deficiencies of her detractors than it does about her.

Gee, Madonna's most recent album was one of the most critically lauded and financially successful of her entire career, and she just ended the highest-grossing world tour by a female artist in pop music history.
I wish my popularity was fading like that.
And those poor kids of hers, living in her countryside manse in Britain, getting the finest education money can guy, traveling the world, having every luxury and advantage known to mankind, and being raised by a mother and father whose capacity for love knows no bounds. Have mercy on their souls!

come on now...your unwillingness to believe that some of these people will do anything for publicity is exteremly naive (tho' i do think both brad pitt and angelina are sincere and caring people).
as for madonna...if adopting kids keeps her too busy to make any more "music", we all win.

madonna is over and done in the U.S. is what he means...u know as well as i do her new album was a massive bomb here selling less than a million copies which is horrible for a supposed "superstar". her first single off the CD barely made the top ten and the rest of the singles haven't charted at all. it's over baby!

- I don't think Madonna has to adopt a kid to attract attention. I think it's fantastic that she's drawing attention to the region and investing her time and income to help people. No, she's not a saint but she never claimed to be either.
- She's done a fine job raising her biological kids so I have no idea why people think she'd be a bad mother to an adopted one. She's never dangled them off a balcony, used them for photo ops or had to call 911 for a "fall".

Re: Madonna Adopts African Baby-baby
Sorry, james1200, but I can't allow the spread of such flagrant disinformation.
Is Madonna over in the U.S.? Her sold out shows across the country would suggest otherwise.
To date, her "Confessions" album has sold over 1,550,000 copies in the U.S. alone, according to the most recent figures posted by Wikipedia -- almost three times as many copies as her previous album sold! Again, if that constitutes a failure, then all I can say is that pretty much any rational, intelligent human being on this planet would have no problem at all if their career was floundering so badly.
As far as your misleading half-truths about the lack of radio play for her singles, the following comes from Wikipedia:
"All of the singles have been massive hits internationally reaching the top 10 of most countries, they have also received heavy airplay in nightclubs across the world, solidifying Madonna's relevance in club culture. Opposed to the rest of the world, the singles were not well received in the US radio. Hung Up had mediocore airplay and peaked only at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first top 10 hit song since 2002's Die Another Day. However, Sorry received a mediocre reaction and little airplay, peaking at #58, with the following single, Get Together, almost ignored by radio stations, failing to chart. Nevertheless, all of the singles have had a good performance on iTunes and on MTV's TRL Video Music Countdown.
Clear Channel, the main corporation that handles all of U.S. radio airplay from thousands of radio stations, has been blamed for not playing Madonna's released singles from Confessions On A Dancefloor, thus significantly reducing her chances to place her singles on the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100. The Billboard Top 100 includes all radioairplay in U.S.
Critics have gone as far as to accuse Clear Channel of banning her music since she has expressed her disagreement with the Iraq War in her previous album, American Life. Clear Channel had campaigned for the Iraq War before it even began and has been known to have strong Republican ties."
As to "Hung Up," the first single off of the "Confessions" album, here are the FACTS, my friend:
"Hung Up" has been number one in 43 countries, a world record!
It has thus far sold 8.9 million singles worldwide! (By contrast, "Vogue," widely considered one of Madonna's biggest hits ever, sold 6.0 million singles.)
"Hung Up" reached number one in over 43 countries including Australia, Canada, Italy, France and the United Kingdom, where it became Madonna's eleventh number one hit single.
In the United States, "Hung Up" debuted at number twenty on the Billboard Hot 100 — one of the highest debuts of 2005 — due to strong digital downloads. It became Madonna's thirty-sixth top-ten single (tying her with Elvis Presley for the most U.S. top-ten successes), and her biggest single since "Don't Tell Me" (2001).
"Hung Up" debuted at number one on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart, which made it Madonna's tenth number-one single in Australia. As a result, Madonna overtook Kylie Minogue as having the most number ones for a female artist in Australia.
"Hung Up" was her eleventh number-one single in the United Kingdom and her first since "Music" (2000). It stayed in the UK top ten for ten weeks, a career high for Madonna that broke a previous record of nine weeks set by "Like a Virgin" and "Vogue." "Hung Up" was also at number one for a record-breaking seven weeks on the UK download charts, and is Madonna's longest-running UK hit with a 29-week chart run, surpassing the 23-week run of "Music" in 2000-01.
So, james1200, is she over in the U.S., or not? If she is, I'm sure she's not sitting at home wringing her hands over it. Rather, I imagine she takes consolation in knowing that Americans have no taste. Frankly, with all the hip-hop garbage and Paris Hilton wannabees poisoning the airwaves these days, it says A LOT that Madonna isn't making good numbers on the charts here in the states.

Re: Madonna Adopts African Baby-baby
uh dryice...i think we've discussed this before. i've said nothing incorrect. 1.5 million is not good for someone of her stature...her like a virgin album sold 8 million here...britney's first album sold 10 million...mariah's newest CD sold 7 million in the U.S...plus, a first single from a brand new album by a "superstar" hitting #7 instead of #1 is not good, especially when any ol' piece of crap hits #1 on billboard's pop charts these days. and all you did was confirm that all the other singles were bombs. if u think a corporation cares about anything other than making money, you're very naive. if there was a demand for any of her singles, clear channel woulda played every single one. plus, the way billboard tallies it's singles, u don't need much airplay to hit number one. example...taylor hackford or whatever the name of the american idol winner is...his song debuted at #1 based purely on sales...if her singles were selling, she could have hit #1 with zero airplay. she is o-v-e-r...
and for god's sake, david hasselof is a music superstar overseas...who cares about how big she's there? right or wrong, u know it's all about the u.s. market.

Re: Madonna Adopts African Baby-baby
Sorry for the rant, guys! But as you can see, I get VERY passionate when it comes to defending my girl. She has brought a lot of joy to my life, her music and her energy and her sociopolitical philosophies have gotten me through some tough times over the years, and she has done so much good in the world, that I have a hard time understanding why she, more than any celebrity, seems to be targeted with so much vitriol.
I guess I should have simply referred back to my earlier post concerning what it says about YOU when you make derogatory comments about others.

Re: Madonna Adopts African Baby-baby
Quote:
Madonna's Confessions Tour, kicked off in late May 2006, with her having to create additional dates to keep up with demand. The tour became the highest grossing tour for a female artist of all time, grossing a reported $194.8 million. The record was previously held by Cher, whose nearly three year long Farewell tour grossed $192.5 million with 273 shows. Madonna's Confessions... grossed more than that amount in only 60 shows. The tour also had a global audience of 1.2 million. However, it also sparked controversy when she used religious symbols such as the crucifix and crown of thorns in her performance of "Live to Tell". The tour ended its 60-date run on September 21st 2006 in Tokyo. The show is to air on NBC, November 22, 2006.
Most celebs would wish to be so "over"

Re: Madonna Adopts African Baby
I definitely think there are a lot of things celebrities will do just for the sake of publicity. But anyone who thinks someone would bring a child into their life to raise - to take on years of all of that responsibility and work and the demands of parenthood just to get their name in the papers - is a serious cynic. I don't think there's any way that would be the case. Having a child is far too much work to do it just for the sake of publicity or "shock value". There's not a chance I think any of that was Madonna's motivation for adopting this child. And as crazy as I think Angelina is, I think even her motives were noble as well. Perhaps celebrities are beginning to see how lucky they are and how they are in a position to do good things and help the rest of the world.
My only problem is that sometimes in fighting to save the rest of the world, they seem to forget about the problems here at home in America. In any event, I respect the lack of selfishness some celebrities are beginning to display, and hope to see others follow.
(on a side note, while I agree that Madonna's career may be in the gutter here in America, she's certainly still flying high around the rest of the world - so she didn't need this mission to Africa to boost her career)

Obviously, you must have her mistaken for some one else, or someone must've read the story wrong to you. I know that no where that I have read (that is reputable, and not trash rags) says she has bombed in sales or otherwise. Wasn't it just recently that they announced and it has made it to the Guinness-Book-Of-World-Records that she has conquered in what Cher has done in 5 (five) years she did in 2 months, with her concerts and surpassed Cher's sales. Yeah, that's right. Check it out baby! Just google her name and you'll see for your self! ](*,)
On another note, kudos to Madonna and her family, the child will be raised properly and have a beautiful and healthy upbringing, ..|
which is more then I can say for Tom Cruise's or Brittany's.......](*,)

porto, my info on her sales figures comes from the bible of the music industry, billboard magazine. i'm not talking about anything except the last album which bombed in the U.S...like it or not, that is a fact.

If you are rich, it`s not a big deal to adopt one or ten kids...You have a Nanny, a Chauffeur, a cleaning woman for your huge house...so what....
Madonna`s daughter is even now a tiny "Paris Hilton" fastidious and cocky.....
And this Kaballah, Scientology thing among the "Stars"...terrible

Re: Madonna Adopts African Baby
Fine I stand corrected. But she did do far better here and in Europe.
Just tired of all the bashing when she has done very well for herself and others.
No one else can come out of Italy and Russia alive after being threatened like she has.......nes't pas?:-)

Hmmmmmmm, I too think maybe Madonna is trying to follow in Angelina's foot-steps with the African adoption......
I read where people compared Madonna's adoption to "Slavery on the auction block"!
You see, she only wanted "a boy", so ALL girls were dis-qualified, and then she had like hundreds of babies made available for her to "preview" before making her final decision!
She also wanted to "fast-track" the adoption and she "greased" the hands of the African nation's government to ensure the adoption went along smoothly and without any glitches...........and the poor father got nothing in return for his son; but she guaranteed millions to the government that is corupt whereas, the poor father could have used that money to lift himself out of poverty!
I just think she made the whole adoption process look like buying an antique or some other possession..........NOT a human being!
Cold, cold way of doing business, I think!(*8*) (*8*)

Re:Madonna Adopts African Baby-baby To Write Sequel To Mommie Dearest In Twenty Years
I cannot understand all of the negativity in this thread. The bottom line is one less hungry child to feed. Those who bring up issues such as "she's an attention whore" or "she's a has been" come across as being petty, small and/or jealous. I don't intend any offence when I say that but seriously what are any of you people doing other than sitting around watching Entertainment Tonight and pointing fingers?[-X

You've changed my opinion. You're post is so filled with the facts of the situation I now agree with everybody who says she shouldn't have adopted the boy. She should have just left him there in poverty. The articles I had read said she was giving a few million to help build up the area with schools, distribution centers and medical facilities, lies! ](*,)

Re: Madonna Adopts African Baby
She is building schools and orphanages there, and I read statements from the father where he was saying how grateful he was that his son now had a chance at a better life. It's odd to me how people can be so negative, judgemental and cynical even surrounding acts of kindness and generosity. Even IF you think her motives were selfish - who cares?! Now there's one less child in extreme poverty and soon there will be an orphanage for many other children who lose their parents due to diseases such as AIDS. We should all be so "selfish."
