2011 Portland JUB Meet

At this point in our planning, the timing and sequence of events are approximate. Of course, anyone who attends is free to pick and choose among the sponsored events, or they can join with others to do something different. There is a lot to see and do in gay-friendly Portland. All the same, some members may want to mix-in some extra time to kick back and relax. The scheduled events are all optional, but there will be a few key events that everyone should try to attend. ;)

Friday, August 5

4PM - 8PM

Our initial gathering will be dinner and drinks on the deck atop one of Portland’s high-rise residential buildings featuring commanding views of the city, the Willamette River, and Mount Hood. The menu will include grilled cedar planked salmon, skewered Oregon lamb kabobs, some tasty vegetarian entrees, along with an array of Oregon produced fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and beverages.

After 8 o’clock, everyone is invited to continue socializing in NineOfClubs’ apartment (in the same building). Smaller group excursions into the surrounding area may be offered for Jubbers interested in exploring some of the nearby attractions.

Saturday, August 6

10AM - Noon

We begin the first full day of our Meet with a visit to the Portland Saturday Market in historic Old Town-Chinatown. The Market offers a unique opportunity to interact with hundreds of artisans from the northwest and to view the wide variety of pieces they produce and sell. The market also features live music and offers many exotic foods to satisfy everyone’s appetite.

Noon - 3PM

In the early afternoon, we will embark upon a tour of Portland's City Center. This will include rides on the aerial tram, light rail, streetcar, as well as some walking.

3PM – 4PM

Mid-afternoon we will visit Portland’s International Rose Test Garden at Washington Park. Portland is known as the “Rose City.” Founded in 1917, this garden is the oldest official, continuously operated public rose test garden in the United States and includes about 10,000 plants. Many of the roses are well known varieties available commercially and others are experimental hybrids.

4PM – 8PM

There will be an unscheduled “free time” Saturday afternoon and into early evening. A list of dining suggestions will be offered to satisfy all tastes and budgets.

8PM – 12PM

We will gather Saturday evening at Silverado – Portland’s only dedicated male strip club where a whole host of dancers will get completely naked while sharing the spotlight with sexy bartenders. The visit to Silverado will be supplemented by a guided tour of Portland’s best gay bars for those interested in sampling a wider variety of Portland’s gay nightlife. The evening’s official event will culminate around midnight with a visit to Voodoo Donut, “where the magic is in the hole!!!”

Sunday, August 7

10AM - Noon

We kick off the final day with brunch at Crush – an exciting gay hotspot known for its variety of delicious menu options from traditional and cultural specialties to vegan.

Noon – 5PM

We round out our Portland event on Sunday by offering a number of options according to everyone’s energy levels and interests. Activities may include: a tour of the wine country, urban trail bicycling, kayaking the Willamette River, tax free shopping, or you name it!

5PM

The final gathering will take place at Silverado where drinks and merriment will conclude what we know will be remembered as the JUB Meet everyone who wasn’t there wishes they had attended.
