trinket, I have to sincerely thank you once again. The same Windows Update issue and sound crashing from all of 18 months ago reared its ugly head again today because I forgot all about it. BAD mistake. I was trying to update Microsoft Silverlight and inadvertantly unleashed the monster out of its cage again.

BUT I vaguely remembered a thread from back in 2011 and in it I found a link you provided back then for disabling processes and services through the Control Panel and Admin Tools - and it has worked wonders a second time!

Turns out I thanked you 18 months ago, and I thank you again. You've saved me from sending the laptop to that clueless repair shop down the road and not having it over the weekend.
