Actually most of the latinos that are cut are from spain. Alot of american born latinos are cut ,as well as latinos from argentina, chile, some of cuba, and some of panama. So you are saying that Jewish customs concerning circumcision are mandatory? Muslims against circumcision say that the practice is not mentioned in the Koran or required - more a reccomendation. In any event, all I am saying as a law student is that regardless of what religious texts may say, the scope and ambit of freedom of religion does not extend to altering someone else in the name of religion. One is allowed to attend a religious institution and read religious texts and follow what one wants for oneself - but it does not extend to someone else's body because that violates their sphere of bodily control and their freedom of religion. What this means is that Jewish and Muslim men against circumcision will increasingly be arguing in law that people will have to prove through the Constitution, legal decisions and case law that freedom of religion extends to allowing one person the right of bodily alteration of another. This practice is beyond the scope and ambit of freedom of religion and those who alter other people will have to prove to these people that the law encapsulates the right to do this.

There are some Muslim sects that consider circumcision Hadith, but in all honesty, it is early hadith and unavoidable.

And yes, The old Jewish and Christian customs are very much alive and well in the Muslim faith, and it would be more likely that the Jewish faith would change before the Muslim.
I think that you are considering this thing from the American perspective in that many Muslim sects do not circumcise a newborn. I think you must account for the fact that it is done as late as 13 years in malaysia and as late as 7 years in Yemen. The circumcision requires an understanding of the commitment and bond that it is meant to symbolize, to these sects. The newer way of thinking is that a child should be spared the memory of the cut.

But remember, Kosher law will always be respected in america.

And so will muslim tradition on this.

As to whether the communities make the mental changes you speak of, time will only tell, but I would be chocked if this change you speak of will ever occur. In a faith where altering the meaning of the Prophets words carries the ultimate penalty, debate over the meaning of even the smallest of words can go on indefinitely. To change such a valued and ancient tradition would be simply unthinkable.

With regard to this topic, all the arguments people make in favour of religious circumcision are made from a religious or textual point of view. It's not that people are being disrespectful, it is just that regardless of what religion says, if the practice is not within the scope and ambit of the law it is illegal. That's it. If altering someone's body in the name of religion is not legally acceptable that is determinative of the legal aspect. If people can carry out things simply because their religion dictates it even if it violates the rights of others and breaks the law, then we will have a system of anarachy develop where anyone can do as they please. The law has always restricted religious practice when it is illegal. Religion does not trump human rights. It is no different from any other religious issue involving women's rights or anything else. One cannot claim proprietary rights over someone else in the name of religion.

But yes it is this counterpointing of religious doctrine vs. the law that is the problem. Ultimately like any other cultural or legal change, it will happen when enough people who are being affected by the practice stand up and say they aren't going to allow a religious doctrine to control them and insist upon the enforcement of their rights in a way that they cannot be refused.
