It wasn't an ugly butcher job in the sense that it was done hastilly, crudely, or unprofessionally. What is so apparent is that the base of the shaft and the end of it have different skin pigmentaions and this difference in color is often more obvious on those with darker skin. I'm not sure that it would be so easy to determine that before hand and at one week old. It's a mess done to an adult by the way so that is really not an option.
