I'm watching the SNL Presidential Bash 2008 on NBC as I write this. It doesn't have quite the same feeling that their political satire used to have back in the 70's and 80's. Back then it seemed so natural and free-flowing. Nowadays it feels like everything is just reaching for ratings and more dollars from the sponsors. I'm not just talking about SNL. Times are just different. Can't help but think of that when we're heading to the polls to vote for change tomorrow.

Anyway, I laughed when their satirical version of Joe Biden stated that he and Barack Obama support completely equal rights for same sex couples, and then when asked if he supported gay marriage, he emphatically said no. Realistically we know that if Obama and Biden did step out in support of gay marriage, they'd lose the election. The far right anti-gay movement would come out in force and make sure of it. I'm not seriously trying to suggest that they support gay marriage and just won't say it out loud?but isn't that a great fantasy?

Fact is, I want the equal rights and the title of a marriage to go along with it. I want that title for my friends who just celebrated their 12th anniversary. They deserve it. I want that title for my boyfriend and I?nearly two years going strong and it would be nice to be able to sit down and talk marriage.
