The most famous Van Dammes — actor Jean-Claude and the characters in The Diary of Anne Frank — hailed from western Europe, so I was more than surprised to learn that Robert Van Damme is Czech. Director Blue Blake put Van Damme's star in the porn cosmos with the original Muscleman Moving Company, and that star has yet to set.

Where were you born? Where do you call home now?

I was born in the Czech Republic. Now my home is L.A., where I have lived for 5 years.

You were discovered by Blue Blake. How did that come about? Did you need to be persuaded?

Blue saw me in some bar, gave me his card and just said, "call me, I will make you a porn star ... hehehe … and he did. That's all.

I have done 17 movies, and my favorite scene is from The Muscle Pit with Marco Paris.

Is there a model you would especially like to work with?

I like a lot of guys: Marco Paris, Josh Weston, Jason Kingsley, Francesco D'Macho, Bruce Beckham. Jim Slade was good too.

Have you ever done, or been asked to do, straight porn?

Yes I did one in Europe a long time ago. It was a disaster, hehehe. Straight porn is about a beautiful girls ... gay porn is all about beautiful boys, so I will stay where I am.

What kind of diet and exercise program do you follow?

I have my own diet and workout on my website, www.robertvandamme.net, and you can get all my secrets there. But a basic is eat a small portion every two hours, then the body won't save (excess calories).

I do not watch my movies, I know what we did, so it would not turn me on. I prefer to watch bisexual movies or straight porn.

You are married. How does your wife feel about your porn career?

My wife like to watch my movies and she is supporting my career.

What do you do for recreation and entertainment?

I relax mostly with sports — tennis, hockey, soccer, skiing. Or I go to the gym. I like also the ocean, a good movie or just being alone sometimes.

In your early films I thought you were physically and emotionally remote, but you have really let go in your recent work: for example, the three-way in Justice; the scene with Francesco D'Macho in Black; and the scene with Marco Paris in Muscle Pit. It appears to be more than just learning how to relax on the set. How is it that you are now so much more engaged and in tune?

Its all about chemistry. The scenes you mentioned were with partners more into passion than others.

What's in your porn future? Do you have any particular plans or goals? Have you made any films that are not released yet?

I am working on a new project with Blue Blake right now. It will be another bestseller like The Muscle Pit. I am also waiting for my last movie from Gino Colbert. It should be out in October.
