In just a little over two years Johnny Castle has become one of the most recognized faces in the adult industry. Recognized for his work in both gay and straight films and his many magazine layouts for Playgirl, Men Magazine, Torso and many more he is one of only a handful of men who have achieved success in both genres of the porn industry. I had the opportunity to sit down and speak with Castle shortly after he was named MEN Magazines Man of the Year for 2007.
When asked what it meant to be named the Man of the Year Castle said the following; “Being named the Man of the Year mainly means that all my hard work at the gym and dedication to taking care of myself has paid off for me and I am truly appreciative of all my fans out there. I also want to thank everyone who voted for me.” His dedication to his physique and overall look is something that he takes very seriously. “I go to the gym every day and sometimes twice a day. I combine that with playing sports and healthy eating habits. I travel a lot these days and the first place I check out in each new city I go to is the gym. Maintaining my body and looks is pretty much my full time job, so I dedicate a lot of effort to keeping myself in the best shape possible.” It is that dedication that has paved the way to a very successful career in the adult industry as one of today’s most sought after male models. When asked what he considers his best physical feature he laughs and says “I guess everyone tells me I have a great ass, so I would say that is probably my best feature. But I also get a lot of compliments on my abs too.”
Do not let this “Jersey Boys” good looks fool you into thinking he is just another pretty face either. “I was finishing up Grad-School and working full time when one night I was bored and decided to post some of my provocative photos up on the web. Shortly after that I had a few takers and one thing led to another and I started taking my clothes off for the camera and that led to doing more stuff and now here I am.” There is no doubt that his education and smarts have helped Johnny take control of his career in the adult industry. No stranger to the internet, he has masterfully used this medium for self promotion and is about to launch his own website at www.JohnnyCastleXXX.com.
He also credits the launch of his career to the amazingly talented Chi Chi LaRue. “I was doing some local stuff up in New Jersey and if it was not for Chi Chi LaRue bringing me out to California, I do not think that all of this work would have come to me. Her bringing me onto her set and talking good things about me to others in the industry gave me the platform to achieve the success I have today. Chi Chi, if you are reading this I Love You!” Castle is no stranger to gay audiences and indicated that “when I first started out I did a lot of straight films and I did a couple solo videos. It became apparent quickly which audience appreciated my work the most and I truly have no problem exposing my body for both audiences, so for me it has been fun and I love my gay fan base.” To date, he has only appeared in gay films doing solo work and has no plans on doing anything more hardcore in the near future.
Currently in a relationship with his girlfriend for a little over a year and a half, Castle has decided he will no longer appear in Straight Films out of respect to his relationship. His current focus is on building his website and producing his own content. “I am very excited about the site. It will contain exclusive videos shot and produced by me and will also feature some new talent as well. I am pretty good at recruiting new talent so it will feature them up close and personal for my fans. I will also have a Blog on the site where fans can communicate with me. I love getting and responding to my fan Email as well.”
Many people seem to be hung up on categorizing people as being gay, straight or bi-sexual. Having interviewed many people in this industry, I am beginning to believe that most people have varying degrees of sexuality and those degrees determine the extent to which they choose to explore their same sex attractions. Castle weighed in on this subject with the following statement. “Being in this industry you get to meet a lot of different people who are into many different kinds of sexual things. Some people like to place labels on people and for me I really do not put a label on people when it comes to sex. There is a lot more out there than just being straight or gay in my opinion and I do not like to put a label on that. As long as you are not hurting anybody you should be free to explore all sides of your sexuality.”
Aside from his work in film and print, Castle is now making live appearances throughout the USA. In the beginning he was reluctant about getting up on stage. “I was very skeptical about getting up on stage and performing because I am really not a dancer. But, I really enjoy getting out and meeting my fans. It is very flattering to hear someone tell me that they traveled from far away to see me perform live. Even though I love doing the videos, I actually think I am enjoying the dancing more now than I did doing the videos to be honest. It is a great combination for now.” Castle is currently represented by David Forest of Forest Entertainment for his live appearances and is part of the Forest Meet the Stars Program. When asked about his work as a male escort, Castle preferred not to comment.
Most recently Castle has been featured on numerous advertisements for the amazing male masturbation toy called the Fleshjack. When asked about his association with Fleshjack, Castle stated “I would like to thank Brett from Fleshjack for providing me with product giveaways to take with me on the road for my live appearances. The fans love getting the toys at my shows. To be honest, I did a paid photo shoot one day and I did not realize what the outcome of that shoot would be. The next thing I knew my image appeared as part of the advertising campaign for Fleshjack. Sometimes I do not realize what I am getting myself into when I do a photo shoot and do not really know what the final usage of the image is going to be used for. However, I think it is great that my image is being used to promote this product. Aside from my images appearing in their ads, I really do not have anything else to do with the sales of that product. It really has been a win-win situation for both of us. Not to mention that I love this toy! I have used it a few times and I really like it. Once you get going it gets pretty intense.”
Completely open to his family about his work in the porn industry, Castle said “My biggest concern was my mother and whether or not she would accept me doing this type of work. If she would not have been accepting and supportive, I probably would not have continued in this line of work. Not that she is totally in favor of it 100%, but it has not had a negative impact on our relationship and to me that is awesome.” He also indicates that he has become a little bit of a celebrity in his home town and his old neighborhood school buddies think it is funny that he is in this business. He recently received an Email from a former High School team mate. “It is funny, I just got an email from a buddy that I played soccer with in High School and he said in the Email that I am the only one that has done something with his life after school. To me it is very funny and most of my friends think it is funny that I am in this business and that I have achieved this level of success.”
With his amazing good looks, killer abs, book smarts and down to earth personality is there any doubt that Johnny Castle will continue to make both men and women’s loins yearn for more and more in the future? I think not!
